yet another LS swap......newb

Sorry after a two year restoration this is the first time i have posted... normally i just read what you kind folks have to say and keep my mouth/hands shut...

this board has truly been a blessing for those of us who can't get enough of these trucks....

Yet another slew of questions for you guys that have decided to go with a Gen III drivetrain for our trucks..

1) How to adapt the original tranny cooling lines to the 4l80E? My truck originally had the TH-350.

2)What is the best way to set up the fuel injection from CPP fuel tank.. only one outlet and return currently, i have talked Tanks Inc about their intank fuel pump....

i would think on the trans lines you could adapt them using compression fittings maybe, or go with a newer style rad. ...maybe just reflare the newer line set to the inverted flare fittings..maybe just my two cents..

NAPA usually has a good selection of tubing adapters for mating one style/size fitting to another, should solve your plumbing of the tranny issues.2.Run an auxilary tranny cooler(probably have to extend the lines for that).I don't like using "compression fittings" on the pressure from a tranny.
I would look into an electric pump(probably frame mounted) and run a fuel regulator since you already have the tank.

My advise is to run a separate, large as possible, tranny cooler, if you aren't all ready, I'm not sure what these trucks came with for autos. These 4L80E's don't like heat.
Will that tank let you run an internal pump? If not just get an in-line pump. Either style, run an aftermarket reg. with it and your golden.

I suppose i can run an aftermarket tranny cooler, i thought the one in the radiator would be sufficient. Its an aftermarket from Cheyenne man in Texas..

I planned on running an in tank fuel pump so i have the tank dropped right now... should be easy enough to make a hole and insert the Tanks.Inc pump...

Any of you guys looked at the Fuel kit available through Russell Performance...

has the Corvette regulator/filter and inline pump and quite a few feet of hose with the AN fittings.... They are kinda proud of that stuff....

Re: yet another LS swap......newb

Haven't done this yet...

but I think the compression adapter can be removed from the 4L80 case. I believe the threads are 1/4" NPT. If so, buy a 1/4" NPT sized fitting and run any type of line you want. I believe I will run a 1/4" NPT to -6AN fitting and then run a line to the cooler. (it might be a 5/16" NPT)

Also, look here for a compression fitting to -6AN that will go into the original 4L80 fitting: http://www.purechoicemotorsports.com...cat/cat135.htm

Re: yet another LS swap......newb

I went to my local NAPA just yesterday and figured out that the fittings are pipe thread into the 4l80 trans case. i was surprised, figured it would have been metric...so i have some pipe-inverted flare adapters coming in today.

thanks

Re: yet another LS swap......newb

I normally get a barb'd fitting and screw into the trans and run new trans lines from there, it's alot easier.
BUT for my swap, I am going to start off using the stock lines up to a point, then they are cut and flared and I will clamp lines to that.

Re: yet another LS swap......newb

A word of caution on using the barbed adapters. I did that on mine and it was no good. I recently had the tranny rebuilt and they said they could tell there was a lack of fluid flow because of the non OEM fittings. Caused premature wear on the internals. Could be BS, but this shop has a great reputation in town for building high horse trannys, so I doubt it. Plus they had nothing to gain by telling me this. Just a heads up.
