What is your set up?

So i want to make a thread on what you set up is. Why you went with what you did and would you change it if you could?

Example. What engine, transmission, tire size and rear end gearing?
Why did you pick that set up? Would you change it if you could?

I'd also like to hear peoples mileage they are getting, your 0-60 time and 1/4 mile time if you have it.

I've just been trying to find info lately to help me figure out what set up to go with and you just can't find this info anywhere.

Since that first post I upgraded the engine for 4bolt 355 truck with mild cam, edlebrock intake and q-jet carb. TH350 w/ NP203 transfer with shaft part time conversion, k10 front and rear axles with 3.73 ratio. With the 283 I got about 14-16 mpg with a Rochester 2GC carb. Expect the same from 355 based on the same setup in my 64 Chevelle.

Re: What is your set up?

I am running a LS1 with 4l60e transmission. Currie 9" 370 gears. Wasnt sure what rearend was in the truck and was wanting disk brakes. Went with this setup due to the reliability, power and mileage i can get from the LS motor. I am going to run a 20" rim in the rear and 18 up front. At least that is the plan for now.

Re: What is your set up?

I am running LS2 6.0 with 6l80E, 2.72 rear, 19 mph. Nova front clip, mustang II steering, front disc. 275r15 rear 215r15 front tires. I was concerned about the rear end being OK for long hauls, not so much coming out of the hole. Boy was I wrong? If I get into it tires will break loose in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd before they stop spinning.

Re: What is your set up?

I'm running a 350/350 combo (325 hp), 74 Nova rear axle with 2:56 gears. Rear tire is a 235/55/17, 9.6" section width and 27.2" tall, wheels are 17X8" with 3-1/2 backspacing. Gas mileage is 17 running 70MPH, and I'm turning around 2400 to 2500 RPM. I figured that a 3:73 ratio with overdrive (70%) equals 2:61 so I went with the 2:56. Hope this helps...Jim

Re: What is your set up?

BBC 396 stroked 1/4", Richmond 6spd overdrive, C4 rear end with 3:08 gears. I"ll be happy with 10-12 mpg. All these parts were left overs from my home business.

Re: What is your set up?

Im running a brank new 350/290 with a mildly worked TH 350, stock rear. smokes tires easily, chirps second at 40% throttle. 55 MPH around 2600RPM. Horrific gas mileage but I LIKE IT!

Re: What is your set up?

I run a SBC with a qjet carb. nothing too strong HP/Torq wise, so i run a nice T5 tranny now. Stock rear end (4.10 gears) with 29" tires all around. I average 17mpg on the highway and 12ish in the city. I'm at about 1900rpm on the hwy doing 65mph.

I have no idea what my 1/4 mile time would be or my 0-60 for that matter, I just don't drive it that way. I love power, but unless it's a sports car, I don't see much of the point in these trucks. Let me also say that i certainly would not turn down a 350-400hp motor . I have mine setup this was as i put about 7-10K miles on it every summer going to and from the cottage. It's mainly my driver in the summer time.

Re: What is your set up?

59 3100 fleetside.... 355 SBC with 700R4 and Dana 44 with 3.73 gears. Camaro front clip with custom 4 link rear. It gets around 14 mpg highway....but with a heavy foot gets around 10 mpg. Not sure I would change much.

57 5700 LCF .... 468 Vortec BBC and 4L80E with 5.38 gears. Stock 19,500 GVW suspension. It gets 13 mpg when not towing and 9-10 mpg towing at around a total weight of 18,000 lbs. I am going to change to air ride suspension at some point.

59 3200 NAPCO....283, sm420 and 3.90 gears......all stock and not finished yet.

59 GMC F370 ...... 336 gmc v8 (pontiac), sm420 and 6.50/9.04 2 speed rear....stock 38,000 gvw suspension

Re: What is your set up?

I have one of each, but no inline 6, the best one is the LS and 4L60E.
Over the years I have tried them all, and the LS is by far the best "if you keep the hood closed". It is kind of hard to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear!!
