Big Block In a 67

[Flat 67]

I know that this has been discussed alot but I still have a question. Which motor mounts do I use? I do not want to cut the the wide portion of the frame that is characteristic of the 67 only. I'm working on 67 C-30 dually.Every photo I have seen ,albeit stock mount or aftermarket , the frame is cut. Any suggestions........Thanks, Flat67

I had a 454 in my '67 K/10 Suburban. I didn't do the install. The P.O. put the bigblock in before I bought it. I think he used the small block motor mounts. The vibrations were intense. That doghouse would shake rattle and roll at speed (+80mph).
I'm thinking of rebuilding it his summer, but I'll be looking for bigblock mounts. Because GM didn't put BBCs in trucks until '68, finding parts for this conversion is a challenge.

Since your not wanting to cut your frame you will have to modify any of the factory style mounts, Or come up with an aftermarket or custom manufactured ones.
I have tried the 67-70 style, the 72 only style and the 73 up ones on a 67and all would not work without cutting the frame relief as found on the 68 and up trucks.. They all hit the frame and will not sit flat on the top

I have a 427 in my 67 c10 and I am using the 72 mounts. It sits farther back than I would like but I just run a smaller distributor.

I introduced a guy to the site here about 1 1/2 (?) years ago - he had a 572 in a 67 - and as I recall, he didn't cut anything - I believe his handle is raycn67 or close to that. I moved away a bit and haven't heard from him since... try doing a thread search.... he posted some pics...

That is the conclusion I came too also. I was hoping something else was available. Thanks ....Flat67

flat 67...something else to consider is what exhaust your going to use. I have done the minimum amount of cutting on my frame to get my aftermarket stands in and my headers still won't go in. I'm gonna see if the guy down the street with the 72 will let me under his hood to trace the stock cut...and then we'll see how the headers fit. Check out my build thread for how mine is now.

Nope the frame is not cut at all. And I used the Dynomax ceramic coated long tube headers from summit with no clearance issues at all and the sit almost parallel with frame. The only problem I have is that to change my distributor I would have to jack the back of the tranny up. I will post pics this afternoon.

when I installed a 396 in my 69GMc with a 67 GMC frame. There was no way around cutting the frame. I went to the boneyards and looked at other frames, some '67's had the frame recess and some did not. i was told that the earlier built trucks had the fatter frame.
I tried using 68-71 style mounts and the 72's. I had to cut the frame. I could have used the small block mounts but was worried about vibrations from improper pinion angles. If you want to use stock mounts, I think you are stuck trimming your frame.

I had to notch my frame a little bit on my 68 which was built with one of the remaining 67 frames left over at the factory. It came with a 6 cyl. so the wide frame rail at the top was no big deal. The factory bb mounts bolted right in with out having to drill any extra holes. Also i used Hooker headers that will slip right in from the bottom without removing anything. I'll try shooting some pics that i took after i did it.

That's weird...I didn't know there was a diff between the 67's and 68's. I took a 68 from a 250 inline to a 460 and it DROPPED RIGHT IN!!! I used '68 motor mounts from an original 396 GMC and all the holes lined up. It was probably the easiest BBC swap I have even done in my life.

Is there anyplace to buy BBC motor mounts, or are they strictly a junkyard deal?
Doing the same in a few days with my '69 project truck, but now don't know whether to throttle back and get different mounts or not. It still has the SB mounts in it

Has anyone done this swap recently and what are the challenges? My mind is racing now, with my recent purchase. The big block doesn't look like it fits very well into that frame.
