1965 C10 Disc Brakes
I have a 1965 c10 with a 292 L6 in it I'm trying to convert to disc brakes in the front. I have a donor truck which is a 1984 c10 that had a 250 L6 in it and I want to keep the original 6 lug rims on the front of my 1965 c10. I plan to switch the 1984 cross member into the 1965 to gain power steering. I noticed the 1984 front end doesn't have a sway bar, but my 1965 front end does. Should I put the sway bar from the 1965 front end on the 1984 front end?

You don't have to swap out the cross member. Just swap out the rest of the components. You can get 6 lug rotors at Summitracing for $130 a pair.

Re: 1965 C10 Disc Brakes
When I first got my truck I put a front sway bar on and it was different. So a buddy of mine who was into slalom racing had me build him a rear bar for his car that was way oversized. We ended fitting it to the rear of my truck. Now that calmed the sway way down, but I was young then so everything made a huge difference. lol

Re: 1965 C10 Disc Brakes
I may keep the front cross member out of my 65 instead because it is in better shape than the donor parts. So I can just swap parts from the donor across, which parts do I need to swap across? I guess I can still use my front sway bar then if I keep the old parts.

Re: 1965 C10 Disc Brakes
From what I've read the original 6 lug wheels won't work with disc breaks. The caliper will interfere with the wheel.

Will 16' steel rims work over the standard 15' for disc brakes?

Re: 1965 C10 Disc Brakes
you use everything except the cross member. You will have to redrill for the idler arm. If you use the power steering box and a mounting plate, the plate will set the steering box 3/4 to the driver side. This will make the truck turn more left then right. You will have to align the pitman arm parallel with the box and adjust your toe that way. I had to cut about an inch off the tie rod end on the left side but it did cure my problem.

Re: 1965 C10 Disc Brakes
What are my options are far as rims are concerned? I have a few sets of 15'' 6 bolt and a set of 16'' 6 bolt, would either of these work?

Re: 1965 C10 Disc Brakes
If your '74 GMC spindles originally had 1.25" thick rotors, you can use the aftermarket 6 lug rotors. Those are the Heavy Duty spindles. The K series is a completely different animal........4x4.
