CHOMPY Hard At Work
It's hard to imagine any junkyard crushing un damaged rust free cabs but it's a daily event .
I needed a cab for my 1969 C/10 and my favorite junkyard said "begins at $700 and goes up " ~ instead I bought a near perfect cab with title for $350 and the junkyard got $35 in scrap value..... Some are kinda stupid ~ when I ran a junkyard I never had much inventory because I SOLD EVERYTHING CHEAPLY ~ DUH .

Re: Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away... part two
No one showed a photo of my Dualie sitting out in the yard so life is good.
I've had a number of good friends with wrecking yards over the years and the general consensus on buying rigs for the yard was that they were worth what the engine would sell for on that rig and you got your profit from the rest. One who seldom paid over 35.00 for any vehicle he bought and usually hauled them away with them being given to him to get rid of them sold fenders and doors and hoods for 25.00 each no matter what they were off except for a few actual specialty rigs. Parts were worth what people would pay cash for that day in most cases but their prices were friendly and their volume was high. Still vehicles had so many days in the yard before the line they were in got crushed as his real money was in hauling crushed cars. The operator of a yard in town who is third generation gives me great deals but I have given him maybe 50 cars over the years and he remembers that. I used to buy a lot of cars for what amounts to beer money now and take what I wanted and call his dad and then him to come get the rest with the title laying on the seat. The "I'll part it out myself" brigade around here wants more for parts than wrecking yards half of the time. You can find deals on bought it for the engine and trans rigs with nice cabs though.

Part 2: Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away...
The saga continues...w/ less talk and more pics.
See part 1 here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?t=747194/ There are plenty of square body trucks out there just rotting away in junkyards, fields, in the woods, or the desert...so post up the pics!! Condition is irrelevant...barely there, or 100% complete. They don't have to be yours...if you find 'em, post 'em up! Please share any stories, rescues, details, and/or locations that you can. If you have a build thread to one that you have saved, post up a link instead of using this thread for your build-up. If you know where an old, crusty square body is resting, please snap a photo of it when you can, and share it with us. I think these old square body pics make for better wallpapers than the blinging new ones so feel free to save any of them that you want! While this thread is located in the '73-'87 section, feel free to post up ANY year of Chevy truck. Here are a few to start us off:

Re: Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away... part two
Ok so i spent an hour of my day cleaning this up. The arguing needs to stop now. FEDERAL law prohibits the swapping of VIN Tags for any vehicle. . It has been covered many times here and people have been permanantly banned for this practice. If you buy a cab from a scrap yard with a VIN on it that has been cancelled as laws change from state to state, in most cases you bring the repaired truck to whomever handles this in your state and a new VIN issued for the truck. STATES MAY VARY ON THIS. In any event this subject is over and if the fighting and arguing persist, there will be 14 day vacations for those participating. Please post your pictures and keep it civil

I can’t say I have seen wheels like that on the yellow blazer. The way the spokes are at a different depth on what looks to be old school slotted wheels.
