Shoulder belts
I'm looking to install some retractable shoulder belts in my 71. I want to try and use GM stuff and don't mind refurbishing something so it works good. It seems like the 73 up truck belts would work, and maybe the 88 and up also before they went with the ones built into the seats. I know some car belts were similar also.
Please post up what you used, pics would be nice, and let me know what you liked about it or didn't like.

Re: Shoulder belts
I'm not really looking for seats with the belts. Just want some bolt in belts that are easy to find and do the job.

Re: Shoulder belts
Years ago on the board, many used s10 (square body) belts in their trucks with minor fabbing. Trevor

Re: Shoulder belts
I have used ones out of both a regular cab and extended cab 88-98 C1500. For a regular cab with tank out of the cab I think the one from a regular cab will pretty much bolt in. These came from a 90 model truck. Since I still had the in-cab tank in mine, I had to drill new floor mounts on the driver's side, but used factory mounts for the middle and passenger locations.
I have heard (as long as you ain't plump) that S10 belts work nicely too.

Re: Shoulder belts
Interesting idea.
It seems thes aftermarket 3 point belts are all a 'on size fits all' deal, so it would only make sense that some later model belts would bolt in fairly easy.

Re: Shoulder belts
i'd much rather use brand new belts rather than junkyard pieces with an unknown history

Re: Shoulder belts
I went with some new ones from seatbeltplanet.com. Still waiting to get my rear tank in so I can pull the cab tank and mount the driver and center belt. The passenger belt intalled in stock hole. Came with all required hardware, including upright shouldered bolt.About $200. Will post pic tommorow of passenger side.Jim

Re: Shoulder belts
Good ideas here. I remember hearing about the S-10 belts before, an I recall seeing Rokcrln's seat frame too, but forgot about the belts. So it looks like there are several good options. I stopped by thelocal uphoolstory shop and talked to her about the belts also. I found that you can buy new webbing in various colors and she said she can send belts out to be refurbed somewhere. I could probably do that myself with a little research. I justneed to find enough good non-rusty buckles and a nice set of belts with retractors.
I'm thinking that I'd like a retractor set up from an early 90's truck, new webbing to match my interior (turquoise or aqua) and use the old style of buckles sewn into the new belts since they would need to be resewn anyway. If I go this route, it'll be posted in my C-10 thread. I'll paintthe plastic parts to match the rest of the interior. Sounds like a plan to me.
