towing capacity question
Anyone out there know what the tow rating for a 68 Chevy C10 would be? I have towed our travel trailer with the truck and it did alright but I wonder if it is rated for a trailer that big.

With my '71 I have towed somewhere close to 7000 lbs including the trailer, and it pulled it just fine, you just gotta have enough stopping power to stop the whole thing, because believe me is not easy

Re: towing capacity question
Hi Rod,
Would you happen to have this data for 1970? I have a 1970 C20 Custom Camper with 350/350 and 4.10 gears. Thanks!

Re: towing capacity question
Does anyone have info on a 68 K20 Panel/Suburban? All I have seen here is just the 2WD C10/20s.
Is there info on the 4WD 3/4ton models? 68 would be preferred but anything from 67 to 70 (with 4 wheel drum Brakes) would work. If you can send me info on this to k20pu@hotmail.com I would really appreciate it! An entire towing guide would be awesome for the 68 model year! Ralf

Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction 68 Suburban .
Rod ,can you please mail me a higher quality scan of both these pictures you've posted? I need a good readable print for this if I want to go the inspection and get it on my registration papers. I know Dutchburb will also be very happy with this information. Thanks in advance. Cya, Edmond

That's a good two tons of stuff and then some over the truck's weight!!!

Re: towing capacity question
Roughly equal to a modern mid-size car on a two-axle trailer. My 'Burb has logged many miles (in the thousands) towing Corvettes (2,900-3,500 lbs.) on a 16 ft. open trailer.

EDMOND tow capacity
I can get a better scan possibly... shoot me an email if the one I sent you is not good enough... I can get the same data from a 69 , 70 or 72 data book I have. These are from dealer data books.. and not everyone has one of those. hard to get... but sometimes up on ebay... but pricey... but they're good resource material definetly.
I sent an email of the scan to an email addy connected to your web site... not sure if thats what or where you wanted it sent. Rod

OldSub,
I had a friend that pulled a completely disassembled B25 bomber from Lakefront Airport in New Orleans to Petal Miss. It was on a trailer and he used a 68 SWB stepside 6cyl with 3spd on column. He drove the truck for several years afterwards. This is just to show what they can pull. EdB |
