1962 Grill question
My grill is in pretty good shape, but could use a rechrome job, but the quotes I have been getting in the seattle area are pretty crazy. $1000 for the grill and front bumper. I cannot find a reproduction grill for the 62, and honestly I like the 63+ grill better. Would the 63+ grill bolt on or am I stuck with the 62?

Re: 1962 Grill question
I believe it's a simple matter of drilling a few holes. You'll probably need the 63 headlight buckets as well, as it seems the 62's are mounted inboard further than the 63.

Re: 1962 Grill question
I know everybody has their favorites now, but back in 1962 the neighbor across the street bought a brand new 62 long bed fleetside. Even he was bummed about the grille. Thought the headlights were ugly, like they couldn't decide if they were going to have 4 headlights or only 2, until it was too late and then settled on a design that might fit either way. Of all the 60-66 Chevy grilles my personal favorite is the 63, but to each his own.
His kid and I were bummed he didn't get a short stepside. He agreed stepsides were more popular, but felt the long fleetside made the truck look more stylish and better balanced, that and it was his work truck. Here's a rather poor photo of his truck with a camper added, taken around 1970. The last time I saw the truck many years ago he still had it, and it remained in tip top condition. |
