New Foam Issue

I just had my 69 c10 full foam bench seat redone with new foam from PUI. The seat looked great, but when installed my head was 1/2 inch from the roof and my aftermarket 13 inch grant steering wheel was in my knees (I'm 5'10).

I am wondering if anyone else has purchased the full foam from PUI and how they resolved the issue. The foam is very stiff and am not sure if it will 'break in' being the truck isn't driven daily. I am hoping to gain more room again and be able to put the original steering wheel on the truck. Thank you in advance and happy new year!

Re: New Foam Issue

Not from PUI but I fabbed my own foam and I had this issue too.. I'm 6'3" (about up to Lurch Adams's nose).

I did find my bench seat foam has softened a bit.. I sit maybe 3/8" lower so far and every eighth inch makes a difference.

Only thing I can think of is remove the seat from the truck, take off the back, remove the lower seat cover and use an orbital sander to take down the foam a little; but I don't recommend it.

There might be some better suggestions in the archives of this forum

Interesting! Subbed. I need to do the seat in my truck. If my dad was alive, he'd make it done right.

Re: New Foam Issue

Thank you all for the feedback. I did read some previous threads on the forum before starting this project. For me repairing the foam was not an option and I made certain that my bench seat is a 69 C10 full foam bench seat.

The full foam on my bench seat is from PUI and I am wondering if ACI foam is less dense? I know this is the more expensive route and not the one that I wanted to go down. However, I am trying to figure out if anyone that has installed ACI full foam bench seat into their C10 has had similar problems. Please let me know if anyone can confirm that ACI foam is less dense and my head will not be hitting the roof.

Re: New Foam Issue

Take it back to whoever installed it , They can easily reshape / cut down the foam to fit your BUTT !

Re: New Foam Issue

Check out www.fullcustomfab.com for the lowered brackets. You'll thank me later!

Re: New Foam Issue

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Shaving the foam is an option as well as the lowering brackets. I saw some guys modifying their original brackets, but did not know there was someone selling them. Good to know!

Re: New Foam Issue

Always have the shop use their own foam, and tell them what you want.
