63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

I thought I would start a build thread on a 63 C10 my dad just picked up.... I had no influence at all on this. It was a truck he found in someone's driveway and just decided to knock on the door and see if they wanted to sell it. Of course, the guys wife was definitely willing, but after some negotiating with him, he ended up taking it home. I will be helping him build this truck, and look forward to building this project with my dad.

Plans for the truck:
Porterbuilt Dropmembers front and rear
LS Motor with 4L60E trans
Air Conditioning
20's or 22's
14" Brakes

We are going to preserve the patina, since the truck sat for 10 years and is fairly straight. It does have it's issues here and there, but will fix those while keeping the original outside color. We might even leave the rear step bumper.

Now for the pictures!

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

Not too much happening lately, just waiting for the drop members to come in. In the meantime, we should be tearing it all down in the next 2 weeks, after I get back from the GoodGuys show this weekend.

Awesome.... but I'm mildly concerned about the vehicle you chose to tow it with.

Hope to see some progress soon. See you this weekend!

Haha.... Yes, but I assure that it's his "ranch" truck only, and does daily drive a Duramax. Why we picked it up with the Ford, I am not sure, ... Think it was the most easily to hop in and get it at the time.

I will have to track that guy down!

I wish it had the patina that your truck has, but they aren't easy to come by. We are still on the fence on whether or not to paint it. The hood was shot, but the truck came with another hood.... so not sure if this can be matched. Also, there are some spots that need to be addressed. Not to mention, this is not the original color, so it may not be worth trying to save.

If we do paint it, then will most likely go silver. The truck is pretty straight though, the bed bulkhead and tailgate are in nice shape.

Here is a better picture of the truck off the trailer, and what we are starting with. Also some images of the truck as we started pulling it apart. It already had coil overs on it!

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

The mock-up of the PB suspension. I can't say enough how nice these components fit together, and the quality. I am not just saying that because I sell it , but it's truly a very nice USA made product.

I did make a template for the rack notch, since I found it easier to mark the location and cut on the outside of the frame rail. It was just a little easier to tape this to the frame and mark my cutline.
