6 cyl truck tach cluster

Kind of rare--an original truck tach cluster for a 6 cylinder truck---originally had air pressure too. I had to replace the bezel and the lense. This tach cluster has the rear metal for a air pressure or vac gauge so you can upgrade this too which is kind of nice. 8 cyl tach dash clusters are pretty common and available in aftermarket too but an original 6 cylinder~~~~~yep, kind of hard to find. Probably only available on larger trucks so here is your opportunity 6 banger guys~~~. $350. shipped US lower 48 mainland~~. Huck

Re: 6 cyl truck tach cluster

Would like to be first in line.

Question, does it come with the harness and can you tell me if it came out of a truck with a striaght 6 versus the V6?

There is no difference in a 6 cyl or 8 cyl tach from the front. If it only goes to 4000 rpms it is a mechanical drive diesel tach which looks similar. The stamp on back tells you what it is for.
I am also unaware if there is a difference between V-6 or I-6 tachs?
Huck, nice set-up. TTT for ya.

Re: 6 cyl truck tach cluster

CPNE--does not have the harness with it but i will make one up for you if you need it. It came out of a farm truck--don't know if it was a straight 6 or V6---should not make any difference. And yes, it is an original 6 cyl tach and you can see the factory stamping on the rear cover of the tach. Huck

Re: 6 cyl truck tach cluster

Eric is correct, the 6 and 8 cyl. look the same and the 4k diesel tachs are cable driven and hook up just like a speedometer does.

Re: 6 cyl truck tach cluster

How does a tachometer know if the signal is from a V8 or a 6 cylinder. Just curious!

Re: 6 cyl truck tach cluster

A tachometer doesn't know what it is hooked up to--you have to tell it! It will respond by indicating how many revolutions per minute the signal is sending. For 4,6,8 cylinder engines, it will simple be designed to divide the number of signals by the number of cylinders and indicate via a magnetic pulse to a indicator which will correspond to the gauge marking. What sometimes causes issues is the length of the pulse wave such as an HEI verses a points ignition system. These old tachs are not very accurate compared to current technology which is solid state verses electro-mechanical. Huck
