mirror bolt hole fix
the bolt on my tripod mirror is a bit big. the bold wont tighten. cant use a bigger bold because you are limited by the size of the hole in the support.
is there any thing out there that i can put in the hole? ie, a threaded insert? perhaps there is a specail deal i can have put on a t a body shop// any one know?

What about a clipnut or speednut type of clip that slides over the edge of the hole maybe weld it in place.

ever heard of "rivnut" ? the tool is much like a rivet gun but it has a trheaded stud that you screw a rivnut onto then install like a rivet by putting in the hole and smashing down. Then unscrew the threaded stud out of there and there you go. I am not clear on the area you are talking about so this will not work if you cant drill the lole out bigger to accept the larger outside diameter of the rivnut. If you are talking about the mirrors that hang on your doors then I think it would work.

Definately, "Nutserts", or "RivNuts", two different brands of rivet style thread inserts for just that purpose.

Nutserts are easy to install with the inexpensive instalation tool, or even an ordinary wrench and allen wrench, Rivnuts I think the tool is much more expensive.

I bought a "NUTSERT" tool off of a Mac Tool dealer years ago, just for this sort of thing. As stated above, it looks like a round barrel with threads inside. Drill out the old nut( you should be able to see what size pretty easy), and install another with this tool. It operates almost just like a rivet gun. I'm sure there's others out there, just don't know them by name.

A "RivNut" would be best but if you are on a budget....I bought a truck that someone had used plastic license plate inserts. They worked great

If you're on a budget I would take a file and make the hole in the mirror support a wee bigger to fit the wee bit biggger bolt. Just my cheap way of thinking

ill look into those things.. thanks..
this is a stock tripod mirror, i am trying to fix this right..... the bolt idea is my last resort, the down side to it, is if you want to take the mirror off. you have to take the door pannel off too.

I just used the liscence plate deals on mine. You just have to shave off the corners a bit with a razor knife to get them to fit in the hole in the door.
