Vent Window Assembly
I have a 1985 Silverado and need the vent window assembly for the drivers side, LMC wants $569.00 for one. I'm going though some junk yards next week and was wondering what years will also fit my Pick-up?
And do Vans and 1 ton pickups ect ect also work? |

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Another question My tailgate is froze shut and the rod that hooks to the handle fell inside the tailgate. Is there a way to get it open and fix it?

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Look down inside the bed and use a flat head screwdriver to pry the pins out of link assembly. You will have to pull out on the tailgate and then move to the other side.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
I think any chevy pickup model from 81-87 should work .

Re: Vent Window Assembly
I would try one of those magnets that extend and try to reach down in. A bad thing about getting a vent window out of a junk yard is you don't know if your going to start hearing wind whistling when your going down the road, I would get a new one but someone has to have it cheaper than that and still a good product, I would shop around a little bit more try classicindustries.com

This salvage yard is about 70 miles from my house but I'll drive there if any of these will fit, he didn't know the years but he sent these pictures.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
You should check the parts board on the forum, someone's usually parting out a truck or burb on here that has them, I picked up a driver and passenger side in great condition for around $100.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
It's a giant PITA but you can rebuild your vent windows for about $30 each.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Mine is busted at the pivot point in the door bottom, the part that has the spring on it. So I don't know if it can be rebuilt but I am interested in buying a replacement vent window assembly.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Those are cool looking, but I don't think I could ever give up the vent window. I use those more often than the window itself.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Just to clear up any further questions about fitment..It doesnt matter if the truck is 1/2 ton 3/4 ton or 1 ton, the body, windows , etc are the same. Only the suspension is different. As far as vans, Im pretty sure they are different altogether.

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Yeah don't pay that. Your junkyard idea is far better. Original parts that will fit unlike most of the aftermarket junk. You'd think for the prices they want for this stuff, it would at least fit. Also, the brand of new seals you may run into, is precision brand. I would avoid them if possible. There is one other brand out there, that I've never tried. The "Precision" brand is far from precise. They much thicker than stock, and they do not conform to the door without a LOT of working with and heating up. They're durable, and tough, but that' ain't enough imo. They need to fit too.

Does LMC sell your seals? If not, then who does?

Re: Vent Window Assembly
Grab a torx screwdriver and find out! There's an aluminum frame that the panel is attached to that sits down in to the tailgate impression. Behind that is a tailgate, and behind it, a truck
You won't be able to acces your handle from under the tailgate band. Posted via Mobile Device |
