Reupholstered my bench seat.

I started with new foams and spray glued new burlap (walmart was useful for a change) onto them.

Unfortunately the foams I bought were for the comfort package? seat frame. This is the frame that has the springs dropped lower for more foam. I've only ever seen a couple of these seats, and after looking for a few months for a donor frame I gave up and decided to just cut mine (foam) apart. I reshaped it a little better after the pic and glued burlap over it.

Aside from having a good bit of surface rust issues, my frame was in extremely good shape. I hit the surface rust with a wire wheel and scuffed down the rest with a red scuff pad. I put a couple quick coats of rustolium semi gloss on it.

I started with the top. I worked it until I got the lines as straight as possible.

Then I finished up the bottom today. Bottom was a little tougher as you had to really stretch it.

Also, something I didn't take a pic of, was I did it once and noticed the ribbing for the frame poking the seat material. Not cool. So I removed the front of the cover (only had a few hog rings in at the time) and glued a strip of foam from the old seat along the face. It is visible (was visible with old seat cover too) but at least I know it can't "cut" through. I think my new seat foam was just slightly too small?

I had to cut a few holes in the new material (always scary!) and screw the top back on.

Covering up the sides wasn't too hard either.

There's a few very minor wrinkles I'll take my heat gun too when I get time, but for now I have a "new" seat

This IS a project you can do at home. I highly recommend buying the "good" seat cover. They have a thicker vinyl. Sorry, I don't remember the brand, I bought it 3 years ago from Tim Christian. Just take your time, go slow, start from the middle and work your way out.

This also isn't my first upholstery job. I think I kinda like it. It's a challenge to get all the wrinkles out and get the piping to work.

looks good. I had a seat recovered one time . they put too much padding in itand I could barely squeeze in behind the wheel

Looks awesome, you have a lot of patience, your projects always turn out well. I know what you mean by cutting new upholstery. I just did Katzkins in my DD and had to trim for headrests, armrests, and plastic panels, pretty scary cutting into brand new stuff!

Thanks guys. I'm a little sore today. The top was easy because of how far the back "slips over" the frame, you really only need to pull/work the bottom end. I'm a little sore from pulling the bottom cover, then taking the front off to add that extra foam around the face of the frame, then pulling it again.

I had to get my deck project finished up so I didn't get a chance to do the brackets.
