Sad where the hobby is headed

A current e-bay listing.....Unfortunately this scenario is much too common....

I am listing Grandpas old 67 Chevy pickup for sale. He loved and enjoyed his favorite pickup until his health began to fail. He has since passed on and the kids no longer have the same passion for the truck as he had. The truck is being listed at no reserve as the old truck needs to find another home where it will feel needed and loved once again. This is a Southern pickup than runs and drives very well. all the glass is clear, no chips, cracks,. or wiper marks. The doors open and close great, the windows go down and back up as they should. The gauges work, the turbo 350 trans. shifts smooth through all the gears, the brakes are good the dual exhaust was recently replaced. The cab is solid, as are the doors fenders and roof, the rocker panels and cab corners are solid. The interior is extra clean and very presentable. The truck has like new 16' tires and rims it is a very dependable old pickup.

I've owned my truck for 33 years (since I was 17). I bet I will have over 30 in the build when it is all completed. I love the truck. My first vehicle. I have two boys that don't seem interested in it. I've told them both that should it become a burden after I am gone to sell it. I hope that one, or both, of them will enjoy it at some point like I do. I just don't want it to be a burden to store and keep just because it was mine. Sounds like what is happening here. Sounds sad, but I had to spend a lot of money and jump a lot of hoops to keep this truck for so long. Hope the one posted finds a good home.

Very few in here own family hand me down trucks , if it wasn't for the sellers most wouldn't have one .

My 50 3600 has that same story. I purchased it from the son whos father purchased it new in 1950. He was a mechanic in World War II and the truck was his first and only new vehicle purchase. He worked as a mechanic all his life and had his own shop for the last 20 years of his working life. The truck was daily driven and workhorse for the shop until he retired and gave the truck to his son. Never really driven much after that. The son sold it to me because no one in the family had any interest in it. While a bummer it didn’t stay in the family, I’m absolutely delighted to be the next caretaker. The truck shows remarkable care despite being a workhorse all those years. All the maintenance and modifications we’re obviously done by a true professional. There is not one rigged or hacked job anywhere on the truck. The son thought the truck was probably on its third engine and estimated the mileage somewhere around 300,000. The body is so straight and clean it’s unbelievable, even the bed is free of any significant dents or damage, even with all those years of hauling.

I’ve been a mechanic all my working life as well. I really think the truck went to the right person and I can certainly do justice and give her really good care just as the original owner did. With any luck when the time comes I can find someone else who will give her the same love........

I don't feel sad at all...there is and always will be an enthusiast to pick up where we left off. I get to play with my **** for awhile and then it becomes somebody else's. My hope is it will be a friend or family member but if not they probably have something they like more they're playing with.

I'm part of the "younger genrarion ". My genrarion could aford them if it they whare not so lazy. They rather spend all thare time on there phone and tv then do somthing that actually matters. (yes I see the irony as I'm on my phone) haha. Thes pickups are part of history and I like the fact that its old and nobody under 30 could even drive it.

The younger generation probably can't afford these trucks anymore the way they are priced now and parts are pricey to restore them. I too think it's priced fair and hopefully someone who really loves this truck will enjoy it. I have 2 boys and one loves my truck and the other could care less. Doesn't bother me at all. That may change one day though.

And what's so wrong with it ? My dad and uncles were into pre war cars my generation not so much. They want to give it a good home.

Sounds like the right move. Ever heard of the saying to each their own? Joe blow who lives in an apartment complex doesnt need a squeaky old pickup sitting around. It might not have any cupholders either. That's what matters to some folks.

We see members here, quite a few, who own trucks that have been kept in the family since new. Some are third generation now. My son is into vehicles, working on his own, modifying it to suit, but not into my stuff particularly. But these trucks have been in his life since birth. I really can't say, but I wouldn't be surprised if I passed away tomorrow that he wouldn't want to keep my trucks and start getting into it. He'll have the house where they sit, so...

I bought my '71 Custom Camper/20 w/camper in '88 from a Nissan dealership where the son of the the original owner traded it in on a used Subaru. It's nothing new

While I think this has always been the case, I can see where the sentiment is coming from. Back when I was coming of driving age I would’ve thought this truck was cool and would’ve done anything to have it. Most of my friends would’ve felt the same. My 16 year old nephew loves cars and trucks of all types, but most of his friends could care less and would spend their $ on a phone first.

My dad bought a Camaro from a family that didn’t want it. We worked on it and enjoyed it together, now it’s in my garage because I wouldn’t let him sell it to anyone else. Dad’s got a different toy now and when my time is up the Camaro will go to my nephew. My c10, who knows, maybe my nephew will want it, maybe my niece will. Sometimes they stay in the family, sometimes they don’t.

I don’t see the sale as a bad thing. That’s exactly how I came to own my 67’.

I’d met the original owner at a local Home Depot about 8 years before buying it. None of his kids or grandkids were interested in it. So he chose to send it my way😊

The good thing is our trucks are still popular. Lots of old guys dying off that own Model T's or 1920s era cars that there is just no market for anymore.

She hoped to get her license in it but the newer truck got that chore.
