Horn button kit and installation
Guys,
I am new to the site and have some questions. To start, one at a time I purchased a horn button kit and cancellation cam from LMC and am having a problem figuring out how the parts from the button kit load into the cam. I am talking about the small plunger with a head and the spring and sleeve. Mine was not there to begin with and I am not sure if the small black sleeve goes in then the spring and finally the plunger with the head(looks like a nail). Can anyone help?? My truck is a 67 chevy stepside w/400sb and a 350 turbo tranny.: |

Re: Horn button kit and installation
I believe the plunger goes in first, then the spring goes over the plunger and the sleeve goes on last. If you have an LMC catalog it should show the exploded view of the steering components.

Re: Horn button kit and installation
HEY , I FINALLY GOT A RESPONSE!!!! KMACD71 i HAVE READ ON HERE THAT THE DRAWING IS INCORRECT. PLUS IF YOU PUT THE PLUNGER(LOOKS LIKE A NAIL) IN HEAD FIRST IT WILL NOT GO DOWN INTO THE TUBE UNLESS YOU GRIND THE HEAD DOWN. I WAS HOPING THAT SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE A COPY OR DRAWING OF THE SETUP. I HAVE CONTACTED LMC AND ALL THEY SAY IS CUT THE LITTLE NUBBY OF OF THE PLASTIC SLEEVE AND EVERYTHING WILL WORK??? I HATE TO SOUND LITERALLY STUPID ON THIS MATTER, BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL WAYS TO INSTALL IT. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE ON THIS AND MAYBE SOME MORE FOLKS CAN HELP AS WELL. ALSO SORRY FOR ALL CAPS IN THIS MESSAGE. I AM NOT A TYPIST AND FIND IT EASIER TO KEEP IN ALL CAPS!!! I AM NOT TRYING TO YELL.

Re: Horn button kit and installation
tr69c10,
I have mine at work on my desk and tried your idea, but I have a question?? I put the spring in the I put the plunger( with the head )in second (head to the outside) , then third ,the black plastic sleeve. that seems to put too much tension pushing down on the spring and if I flip the plunger over with the head going in first then the head is too big and will not press all the way down??? I am really confused on this and I have emailed LMC four times and they keep talking about cutting the nub off the plastic sleeve and nothing else.I appreciate your answer but I must be very dense on these parts. |

Re: Horn button kit and installation
I was thinking that the sleeve goes first. then the spring, then the plunger. I was thinking that the sleeve has like little nubs on it that when you insert it, and give a little twist. It locks in place, then you just insert the spring and then the plunger. Plunger rides on the back of the horn button. "brass ring". that way when you turn the wheel you always have contact. ie.. horn. Maybe. Its been a long time since I messed with mine. Oh ya, welcome to the board> I am about 40 miles south from you.

Re: Horn button kit and installation
This may be a little late but I am dealing with a horn as well. I happen to know that the spring goes in then the plunger. File the head a little to get it to fit. (It will need to move in the tunnel freely) then slide the plastic over and snap down into the tunnel. I am having a time with the horn button and related parts. Can any one help with the sequence of how those parts go in place?

Re: Horn button kit and installation
The LMC kit is crap, you must cut the sleeve to make it work. You have to make "1 kit" from the exisiting parts while adding the LMC kit to make it work. I did mine 5-6 months ago and it was a PITA, but stick with it, take your time and "engineer" it. Don't get frustrated and DON'T quit and add a button on the bottom just because you quit. It can be done, just stick with it and have patience.

I don't exactly remember the steps I did, but it works fine. Don't get frustrated and DON'T quit with adding a button on the bottom just because you gave up. It can be done, just stick with it and have patience. "YOU CAN DO IT"
Forgive the double post...
