Thinking about Auto Trans, what kind should I get?
I have a 67' 250 I6 in my truck, what kind of auto Trans mission should I be in the market in if I were to do the conversion? I want to eventually do freeway driving in my truck and I want to go with the auto gear shift on the column

When I owned a 67 c10 it had the original inline 250 but had the 3 on tree which I converted over to a th350. So I did not use the kickdown cable just tied it off to the side. It ran good without it. if you go with overdrive you will have to use it or you will burn the transmission. Atleast what I was told. I didn't find a place who had the kickdown cable brackets but was told by many it was fine without it and it was. Never gave me problems. Didn't drive freeways though.

I had bought a radiator to work for the automatic and bought new lines for as well. th350 don't have overdrive so I had the kickdown cable connect on the trans but tied the other end so it was not flopping around. the kickdown cables on the 700r or 200r etc.. would need it hooked up but I think your best bet is either a powerglide or th350 for your inliner. should be good on highways. My 64 c10 has a v8 305/th350 really only go 55-60 on highway but does have the kickdown cable but I never step on it to pass people hard ima slow driver. if your a slow driver like me or step on it easy and pick up speed as you go then you should not have to worry about the cable being hooked up unless you really want it and can make your own bracket or find someone who has one. Remember in 67 they didn't have th350 but powerglide. I say go with th350 though.

Yes. Your manual trans crossmember wont work. I believe any 63-72 crossmember that had a automatic will work but you can also find them at any aftermarket shop like "truck shop" in orange. Also if you want to save money and keep your original colum that is three on tree you should be able to use the Cpp shift linkage it is adjustable to fit. Also for a heads up depending on the transmission you go with the inline mounts might have to move forward or back. Should be fine if your frame is like mine has multiple holes for the engine mounts and transmission mounts. 63-66 have the extra holes for moving the mounts unlike the 60-62.

If you have 3.73 gears you should be looking for overdrive.

A 700R4, 2004R, 4L60E, or 4L80E are your choices. All will work behind a 6 cylinder. I would suggest the 700R4 or 2004R- they don't require a controller like the electronic transmissions. Do some research as some years of those are better than others. Otherwise, you will have to add a cross member, change the driveshaft, change the shifter, and connect the kick down or other cables required to control the transmissions. Do some research on the one you are interested in to see what is required.

I put a TH350 in my truck when I first got it going. I also had 308's in the rear. I switched to a 700R4 later on and have never looked back. This was behind a v8 though. Today that truck has a BB with a 700R4 and I will be doing the same swap in my other truck.

While a 700R4 is nice for the OD, the issue with installing one behind an I6 is proper installation of the TV cable. To my knowledge, no one makes a kit as they do for the V8's with 4bbl carbs. If the TV cable is not installed and adjusted correctly, you will burn up the trans in a very short time.

A neutral safety switch is not mandatory, but is suggested strongly! I have cranked a tractor in gear and consequently run into my truck, so I am all for neutral safety switches. Typically, it is part of the shifter (for floor mounted shifters, that is.) If you stick with a column mounted shifter, you will have to figure out a way to install one.
