Re: Jeep spring swap question

I have TJ spring on a '66. I used the shock studs from the front mounted on the outside of the frame, and stock front shocks on the rear. The lower shock mounts were flipped (had to drill a new hole in each). Not sure if this would work on a '61 but it's much better than the stock location.

Frizzle Fry posted a how-to here:

Re: Jeep spring swap question

I had stock jeep tj springs and shocks left over from when i lifted my jeep. I ended up putting both the springs and factory jeep shocks on my 65'. Shocks bolted right up to the factory position on my truck, and ride better than the old worn out truck shocks did. Everything was a direct swap.

Re: Jeep spring swap question

The '60-'62's had rear mounted shocks from the factory, but at more of an angle to the rear. The dampening effects of the shock would improve with the shocks mounted more vertical as shown in the pic above.

Re: Jeep spring swap question

Anyone ever done air shocks to help with load capacity when needed? The tj springs seem pretty weak but since they were 20 dollars thought I would give them a try.
