I know this has been asked a billion times but the"google" search doesn't find it. And it's been 20 years since I did the brakes on this generation.

87 1/2 ton with the 1.25" rotors (diesel). I have new hardware and pads to put in, calipers themselves seem OK. Looking at the system, I lube between the pin and sleeve, right? And NOT with anitsieze or any oil based, right? 'Cause the PO used both

and didn't replace the rusted pins ($8 each at NAPA!) and the o-rings swelled and siezed the calipers

. Didn't help they undercoated it everywhere including the suspension and brakes (took wire brush and 3 cans cleaner to fix that...).

Anyone have a preferred lube? Or is the over-the-counter plastic pouch stuff (Castrol I think?) at Murray's just fine?

D13. I use the GM pouch grease I have saved over the years. Any GM mechanic will have a few pouches in his box. Short of that use some Kent K44 silicone grease brush in can stuff. NAPA should have silicone grease available. If your doing a complete brake system overhaul consider DOT 5 silicone fluid also. You'll have better pedal feel and brake performance as well as silicone fluid is a better lubricant of brake parts. Silicone fluid won't hurt paint either and doesn't absorb water like DOT 3 does. jim

most of the auto parts chains have it for sale either in pouches or squeeze bottles

i just use a can of spray silicone lube, pull the boot back a bit, hose it down, then work the caliper back and forth to work it in

Almost 2 years of work, but it was really worth the effort. Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
