Another Gas Tank Question . . ..

Other than the obvious 67-72 blazer tank swap or a custom tank are they any other tanks which can be mounted beneath the bed, between the frame rails.

Re: Another Gas Tank Question . . ..

I'm guessing this is a pretty long list. Suburban tanks of course, also, I had an 89 ramcharger that had a poly tank that looked like it would fit perfect.

Do you want a direct bolt in or do you mind a little fab work?

Most tanks in older cars are located between the rear frame rails, so you probably just need to get a tape measure and head to the junk yard.

Good luck.

I would like to find something that would go in fairly easy, but i wouldn't mind having to make something such as the straps or so forth.

Anyone else???

A little different question, but still in the same line. Does anyone know where you can purchase those street rod type gas fill door housings for a through the bed fill to a rear mounted blazer tank?

I've heard that you can take one from a g-van all the way up to say a 90 modeljbut I haven't tried it my self. There have been some members here who have done it.

Re: Another Gas Tank Question . . ..

What do people do for a spare tire with a rear gas tank mount? I have a trapeze set up, so I don't see being able to put in a tank between the rails behind the rear axle. Has anybody ever put in a tank in front of the rear axle (not looking for the saddle bag variety)? I know there's not much room and it would most likely have to be a custom.

Re: Another Gas Tank Question . . ..

This tank is from a 75 blazer. The advantage is a large tank with a low profile. They are easy to find, I got this one for $35 complete. The disadvantage is you have to move the rearmost crossmember back. It's easy enough to do, and it is cutout ont the ends to clear the bumper brackets. Mine is not installed yet, the pictures were just when I was making the crossmember change and checking the fit.

Re: Another Gas Tank Question . . ..

I met a guy who got a tank out of a 1980 chevy van. The filler neck comes out the side and he made it so that the side marker light flipped open on a hinge to reveal the gas cap. He said the fuel sender was compatable with the stock gauge and all he had to do to mount the tank was to shave a little bit off of the inside of the frame rails. I saw the truck. It was really a slick setup that looked like it came that way from the factory. Plus, if you still plan on using your truck to haul stuff once in a while, you don't have to empty the bed just to put gas in.
