Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
So POed. Probably didn't need them anyway, because I have a nice set, but I'd have used these, because they were perfect in every way. They did a real nice job packing to ensure no scratches, but only one problem. What a shame, these are hard to find and they jacked em up.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
Got them off Ebay/Paypal. I managed to sneak in JUST the right amount and out-bid the guy by 50 cents ($152.50) That was "lucky". I can't tell if insured, was shipped UPS.
Of course the box is bent. I don't even want to pay for shipping. In fairness to the seller (sorta), these are as difficult to pack safely as anything. You pretty much have to put a box(es) within a box. Soft cardboard won't cut it.

UPS is insured to at least $100. Sounds like your beef is with them.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
I always ship trim items like these in a PVC pipe with end caps, and ask sellers to do the same for me. Its the only way to do it. Cardboard boxes don't have a chance.

Understood, but you'd need at least a 6" pipe. Not they aren't available.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
So far, this turned out to be a great suggestion from a buyer's standpoint. First, unless UPS sends me a bill (likely not), then I got out of shipping costs. Second, it shows good faith.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
Honestly... don't bother. They'll conclude "insufficient packaging" and you'll have just wasted your time...
Basically, unless it was boxed at a UPS store (even then they would try to find a way not to pay), it will come down to the packaging and they'll claim it wasn't sufficient to protect the package. Been through this before with UPS. Never got a dime. Looks like a super comfy chair you got there....

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
I'd be Heartbroken; I've been looking for a pair of those myself. A few yrs back I had a pair of rust free Cali. doors shipped to NH via Greyhound bus, and they were all dented & bent when they got here. I was sick, did a claim through Greyhound and they said "Insufficient Packaging". Whenever I ship something I made it Bomb Proof.

To be fair, it is possible to package this stuff cheaply and properly (I've ordered a whole car's worth of side trim) in a Schedule 40 PVC pipe, etc. If it's packed insufficiently, then I don't think UPS should be on the hook, do you? Now if it's brain-dead obviously packaged well enough and got run over by a truck, that's different, but I doubt that happened here. Based on the packages I've received from eBay sellers over the years, I'd wager most of the times UPS says it was improperly packaged, it probably was. Had a guy offer to ship me broken stuff and claim it (there's a whole Seinfeld episode on that topic). Didn't even know me, and like we were going to conspire to defraud the shipper!

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
I just called UPS.......They're going to pick it up and determine liability from there. Thanks.
Ha!, just read ChevyRednecks post. No doubt you're right. The seller doesn't stand a chance. Chair is real confy. Prefer clothe though. Beggers can't be choosy, my parents gave it to me.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
Too bad about your NOS trim, I hope it works out for you.
I ordered these from MAR K they shipped them taped to a pc of 3/4" thick pine, then wrapped that in a cardboard sleeve and placed inside a heavy cardboard box. I guess they have lots of experience shipping stuff like this. I also got some NOS lower trim from a member on here and he shipped them in a plastic pipe.

It really is a shame. They were perfect. Still haven't heard from the guy. He can't/won't be happy. I've got another set of separators. They're beautiful. One wasn't quite straight, possibly from shipping. It's straight now for certain, I wrapped the straight portion with thick cardboard both sides. The RH has a slight bend on the edge/inside/underneath. I think it will still slide in, but want an extra, just in case.

There are people that would straighten those out and you'd never know they were bent.

What I was thinking. But someone should still pay for the damage.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
Sucks. that's why I try to watch what I get from ebay. A lot of sellers don't know how to properly pack and use shipping boxes that are too small for the part(s). In this case. it needed to be a shipping tube or pvc. It really is the responsibility of the seller until it arrives at your doorstep to make sure that the part(s) isn't damaged. Ebay favors buyers so you should come out on top although it sucks to have to go through the hassle and still not get what you wanted. As far shipping providers go. I personally cant stand the post office. It almost seems like having a bad attitude is part of their job requirement. And they have actually lost parts I shipped even with a tracking #. Usp is ok but too expensive. FedEx ftw

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
It's clear the responsibility lies on the seller who obviously did not package these precious parts in any manner of concern what so ever. They got their money and that's all that matters. They shouldn't even be allowed to sell N.O.S. I would take this up with PayPal and get my full refund and screw the jerk who packages parts with no concern. What Ebay seller out there would not be aware of UPS's track record of denying responsibility based on insufficient packaging?

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
This Ebay seller has turned out to be a treat. I contacted him three times before I heard back. The parts were delivered to him a week ago, and I contacted him again for refund status, and not a word back. He's listed items since, so safe to say I'm on ignore.
Ebay gives him until tomorrow before they process the refund. I figure a bad rating is in order.

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
Fight it. UPS damaged (dented badly) a 1971 OEM fender I bought on here and had shipped from CA.
They finally agreed to pay for a body shop to fix it but I had to kick a little out. I ended up not using the fender and will later sell it. Now I DEMAND any part (easily bent) be shipped in a wooden crate or I won't buy. In some cases I just drive a long ways to pick it up. |

Re: Received my NOS Paint Dividers today - Check these babies out
I said Schedule 40 because it's pretty thick - made for pressure, not just as a drain pipe, so it's stronger. Which isn't to say that it wasn't already Sched40, or that Sched40 would have lived, but it's tougher than the basic pipe.
