New with a question

Hey Gang,

I was informed about this group last week when I was picking up some parts for my 69 build from a member. As of right now I have a 69 cab and frame and another 72 frame.

While looking at the two frames I noticed on the 69 the rear cab mount brackets are only welded on the frame while the 72 frame rear cab mounts are spot welded and riveted on the frame. Is it normal that on some years the mounts are just welded to the frame?

From what I recall, GM riveted everything on the frames together that wasn't expected to ever be removed, like all cross braces, cab and bed brackets, etc... From what you describe, it sounds like the 69 frame might be a cut down longbed frame and they relocated the cab mounts. Is there any evidence of the frame being cut down?

I will have to look closer. It didn't appear to have been cut when I looked it over to buy. Then again I was told it was an original swb frame. I'm just trying to decide which frame to use on this build. I have a long ways to go in collecting parts still

This is one that Was cut down and here is what to look for. the last pic shows were the bed mount is taken from at left & right of that chain. There should be two sets of holes on left & right side top of frame not being used just about 12" in front of the RIVETED original bed mount.

I re read your original post and what you ask for about the Cab mounts I have no idea in where they would be relocated to. I thought seeing a frame cut down you would kind of see where to look for any signs of splicing or added on gussets in on the frame. Some kind of reinforcing would be visible.

Have a few more questions. on the title gvw is 3700. Am I right to assume this would be a SWB? Checked the frame and the partial VIN matches the VIN on the door jam. Now the partial vin was not under the cab. Good news is the Cab and front half of the frame match the Title.

Just looked at my 68 swb fleet. My dad bought it new so I know it is not modified. The gvw is 5000. Also re read your post. Since you have a 69 cab and 72 frame you should be ok as far as core support. Just be sure to get mounts for those tears. The cab tilting over still applies however. Lol

Ok. Title shows 3700 on this one. Yeah cab I was actually suprised how easily I picked it up. Guess all those years in the gym payed off lol. I knew I should have just waited and tried to find a complete truck.

I have both a short and long 69 frame and the cab mounts are riveted only the factory did not weld anything on these frames so your cab mounts were moved for some reason
