Stumbled across a 67 GMC, interesting SPID

Found this alongside a north dakota highway this weekend and couldn't believe I just stumbled upon a GMC 67 V6 Custom! They are aksing $2500. Said some guy offered them $500 Anyways, I am looking for a sheetmetal parts donor truck for my 67 GMC but figured this was too expensive. Tailgate is awesome and so is bed and pass fender but cab is shot. Its a neatly optioned truck though so I thougth I'd share. I didn't know you could get different valves on a 305 V6? Anyone know where this was built from the Vin? Looking for comments on options.

Re: Stumbled across a 67 GMC, interesting SPID

Also this is the first 67 GMC I've seen with a SPID out of the last 10 I've looked at/been sent pics of.

Another question, wasn't the 326 the base tranny? Why is that on the spid?

No, the SM 318 3 speed non sychro 1 st gear was the base 3 speed. The SM326 was the optional fully synchro 3 speed.

Aha! That explains it, when I bought my 67' I received a box loaded with original paper work, owners manual, Protecto plate, receipts, registrations, salesman business card, ect. I couldn't understand why the spid was missing and everything else was kept.

Cab would need at least supports, floor pcs, rockers and corners. I didn't check visor, kickpanel or firewall areas. Figured I wasn't too interested at that price and I'd prefer a big back window. The 305 started instantly but was like a chimney

Haha, I see you're not too far away. We've got a shop/storage in Emerado and my brother works on the other side of the metropolis of Emerado. I don't think it will sell too quickly for the asking price the way it was smoking unless someone doesn't notice the cab rust. I said it was too expensive given the condition figureing he'd throw out a price but he didn't. Its an owner consigned vehicle so the price will probably drop. Grille chrome was rusty too.

Re: Stumbled across a 67 GMC, interesting SPID

The 305 V6 is a great motor. It's got incredible torque and it's built like a diesel inside. It's not a high-revving or fast motor, but it can definitely tow. I had one in a 66 GMC that was a lot of fun.

The heavy-duty 305 V6 (I think all of the 67s had the heavy-duty motor) had valve rotators. They rotated the valves constantly while the engine was running to keep carbon buildup down.

Re: Stumbled across a 67 GMC, interesting SPID

My guess would be sodium-filled exhaust valve stems.

Re: Stumbled across a 67 GMC, interesting SPID

Wow, first '67 GMC I have even seen with a SPID label. Anyway, yes, heavy duty valves were an option on 305 V-6's. They were not sodium filled, they were stellite faced with hard seats pressed into the heads. All 351's were so equipped, but for some reason it was an option on 305's.

Are SPID's on GMC's unusual in Canada? Maybe it is a Canadian built truck. Just a thought since it is up that way...

I think it might be Canadian built. the 9 in the GMC 15900 on the label could mean the Oshawa, Ontario plant. I have a '67 with an SPID in the glovebox. It's badged as a GMC 910 pickup. Built in Oshawa.

I dont believe that this is a Canadian truck. V6 was not available in Canada. These photos are from my 1967 Canadian 910-930 owners manual. it shows the engine sizes available and how to decode a Canadaian GMC VIN.

Re: Stumbled across a 67 GMC, interesting SPID

This pickup reminds me of the 67 Chevy C-20 custom camper that had leaf springs. There were no option codes on both pickups, only the part numbers on the SPIDS. Leads me to believe these pickups might have been special ordered thru COPO. If it is a Canadian built GMC (910 emblems could have been removed when repainted), the V6 could have been a special order option.

Until visiting this site, i'd never heard of a V6 in these trucks. So they must not have been available in Canada. Interesting.

I don't know how accurate the manuals are. For example my 67 GMC owners manual does not list any V8's available. It only lists 250, 292 I6's, and 305 and 351 V6's. I do believe V8's were offered though in 67 GMC's; Perhaps later in the production year.

I think you;re right about it not being canadian though since the SPID I posted on this page of the 351V6 truck looks the same and it was from Kansas.
