need help 86 c10 305

Ok I have posted a couple other times on here and now im in need of more help. I bought an 86 couple of weeks ago came with the 262 v6. The engine was shot a couple of friends said to me why dont you just put a 305 in it. It sounded like it had a couple minor issues getting it in. but its there. the vacume lines are just a mess not quite sure if they are right tried to follow the diagrams the best i could from the 6 to the 8 there are a couple of changes. now the problem is it will crank but im not getting any spark. checked the distributor cap and the coil put new plugs and wires. checked the wires im getting 12 volts to it. Just wondering if its the vacume lines one goes into the distributor. im not a mechanic and am pretty green my friends told me its not hard to do but ive hit a wall. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are sure the power lead to the distributor is plugged into the BATT terminal and not the TACH terminal. Are you running a V8 distributor? What year 305 do you have? Are still running the feedback carb & EST distributor?

Chould be the ignition control module, magnetic pick-up, wiring, bad connection

Im running an 86 305 the distributor came with the engine. plugged the batt tach wire in but not sure if it is the correct plug harness was a mess. tried finding if it was the tach wire looked at a couple drawings but not to sure. the carb that is on there is not a feedback carb. the engine that was in there before ran but ran like **** no acceleration and burned oil so bad. was told it would be a simple swap but am now stuck with this headache. with too much money into it and a pissed off wife

The BATT (battery) and TACH are two different wires, your truck probably doesnt have a tach so nothing should go in that terminal. The BATT side of the coil should have a 10 gauge pink wire going to it that supplies 12 volts when the ignition is turned on and while cranking the engine, The connector is usually white that does or had a tab that secures it to the cap. pictures of the wires on the distributor whould help
