Option code G-50
Wish I had my camera with me. Anybody hear of "helper springs" for a truck with coil? I saw a truck today with leaf springs added at the rear. They went from the back of the frame to the area(rested) just behind the coil spring. said G50 heavy rear springs on the spid in the glovebox. This is a Canadian truck. It looked factory.

Re: Option code G-50
it is a factory option, normally associated with trucks destined for hauling a camper or trailer or just for someone that wanted to order a truck with heavy duty capability - they helped keep the truck level when additional loading was placed in the bed. i.e. it was all coil spring-like ride when light loaded, but when additional weight (camper) added, the truck lowered enough for the added support of the helper springs to be gainfully employed.

That is exactly what it looked like. One exception this one has 3 leafs to it. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I had just never seen it before, now I know. Thanks again.

Re: Option code G-50
We always called them helper springs. Leaf spring trucks use auxiliary springs that mount above the main pack and only come into play when a load brings the truck down enough to contact the stops at the ends. Those auxiliary springs are also commonly known as helper springs.
