Steering column removal and repair information

I just want to take a moment to say thanks to everyone that takes the time to help on these forums. Your knowledge of these classics is something to be proud of.

I was thinking of "rebuilding" my steering column. Its got a few rust spots, all the levers are rusty and the shift indicator and turn lever is jacked up. The Steering wheel is a mess too but that can be done later.

Looking over the replaceable parts in the column from a LMC mag and a little sand paper and paint this seems like this could be cheep and easy to get it pretty and functioning smoother/correctly.

Are there any videos or guides to removing the column? (Mine is a 67 Auto/Turbo non tilt, if that matters) Is it just unbolting it at the joint in the engine bay and pulling it up and out?

The turn signal lever is a real pain to use. It sticks or clicks back off and is mostly unusable. Is there a kit to rebuild this?

Also, if I'm going about this wrong and there is a better way to handle this feel free to correct me. Thanks.

Re: Steering column removal and repair information

I removed mine at the rag joint then remove wiring connection and the bracket under the dash. Then Slide it on out.

I have looked at a few diagrams but mostly just took pics when taking mine apart for reference upon rebuild.

The turn signal problem is a pretty easy fix and the kit is only $30 and includes the column wiring. Here is a pic and link

Possible. I don't know if I'm going to tear it down that far, but who knows what might happen. Thanks for this!
