Saying Hi! and my first question: WIpers - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have been lurking for about a month now and could not resist, I had to join. I have been to quite a few other sites / boards, but this one is by far the most informative and friendly...

The question:

Where does the factory windshield washer pump and washer jar mount on a '68 Stepside LWB? The hoses have been cut where they come through the firewall from the cowl and the complete under hood area was gooped up with black paint. Hard to tell where it should go. I think the jar goes a little front of center of the drivers side fenderwell and the pump to the drivers side firewall in between the master cylinder and the fender... am I close?

The wiper motor works but the wipers jerk when moving, any ideas?

I appreciate the help.

the wiper pump is up under the dash attached to the wipermotor as far as the wipers being jerky try lubricating the wiper linkage and wiper towers as well as replacing the blades

i know what your talking aobut with the jerks i think. there are clips taht connect the arms on the wiper to the pole taht moves them back and forth... they get streched and have big gaps in them oil it for now im gonna find another way to bolt those together so they dont ever do taht again.

The wiper motor is under the dash (sigh)... guess that explains why I could not find mounting holes. Thanks cdowns! I have a day off Saturday and I plan to spend it crawling all over (and under) the truck.

The original windshield washer pumps tend to fail.
There are kits to rebuild them.
A lot of folks simply install a generic aftermarket washer pump.
These install inline between the washer bottle and the firewall.
They are reasonably priced and are quite reliable.

I have also heard of board members installing one of the newer style pumps obtained from a salvage yard that has the pump in the washer bottle.

You might be surprised by the price of a brand new factory style washer pump. Napa is always the highest place in town around here, but they had one and it was only $18.00. I'm gonna get one to install while I've got everything out of the cab when I swap my cab out.
