Spare parts Build 72 short bed 4x4
well I have been gathering parts for my 72 crew cab build for several years now and I almost have enough to get started on it, but while doing this I have acquired quite a few parts along the way. in this build I will be putting together a 1972 Chevy short bed 4 x 4 using mostly spare parts. this is not going to be a mega dollar build just a good daily driver for some body or a off road toy . well lets start off with some pictures or the trucks and parts I will be using for this build.

Re: Spare parts Build 72 short bed 4x4
well heres what i got done today.i gutted the 72 long bed 4x4 for the 3/4 ton running gear that im gonna use on this project and saved the frame for my latter build.
then i stripped the 72 short bed down to a bare frame and finished the day with a bunch of pressure cleaning getting ready for the next day |

Re: Spare parts Build 72 short bed 4x4
well today was a bust for me had a bunch of customers stuff to get done and then wasnt feeling well with the constant weather changes here in fl. but heres what i got done yesterday.
first i mounted all the 3/4 ton running gear to the short bed frame then i sat my 88 up step side bed on the frame to get and idea how it will sit. then started tearing down the 69 c20 that im going to use the engine frrom its nothing fancy just a stock 307 that runs good. now ill get to degressing the motor and put it garage for a quick reseal. |

Re: Spare parts Build 72 short bed 4x4
well had a some what productive day i finished stripping the 69 down to the cab area and stored the good and put the bad in scrap pile then after a lot of degressing and a set of new valve cover gaskets i lowered the engine down into the frame rails and got it all bolted up , witch left me with haveing to dig out the 72 one to remove the cab and front clip amazingly the cab mounting bolts all unscrewed with little effort and now the cab and front clip are resting on the short bed frame tommorow comes installation of new cab mounts and start hooking everything up .
heres the engine sitting in the hole the 1ton being stripped side view of body sitting on the frame it still needs body mount cushions to be installed and bed to be fitted to match body lines i think it will turn out to be a fairly decent looking daily driver. |

Re: Spare parts Build 72 short bed 4x4
yea down here in florida you end up bying one truck for bed another for a decent cab and so on lol you can never seem to find a really solid truck around here, and when you do then all the running gear seams to be junk, so i just buy a bunch for cheap and piece them together plus it always feels good when you put one to gether from a bare frame and see it drive down the rd.
