Glad to be here & Thank you!
I traded for a 71 GMC Longbed 350 V8 automatic trans on Saturday AUG 2.
I found this forum while searching for electrical help for the lighting. While waiting to get my posting privelidges I searched all posts on electrical troubleshooting on this site. I must say there is ALOT of priceless info on this site. That is where the THANK YOU comes in. I had no marker lights, brake lights, the tail lights came on when the brake was depressed. I removed the entire rear harness & light housings and began to remove years of added trailer wiring. Cleaned all ground contacts & added the bed to frame ground strap. Everything worked except no brake lights. I checked everything that I could read to check in the searched posts. I then decided the only thing I hadnt looked at real good was the moon connector. I pulled it down to put an eyeball on it and sure enough on the side where the b/w wire is it had at some time been hot enough to melt. I ran a jumper from one side of the connector b/w wire to the other side and BINGO brake lights. To all who answer peoples problems Thanks a million it helped me straighten ALL the lighting out including the Cargo lamp on the rear of the cab. Now its all body work...So I will be asking alot more questions and searching all of the posts before I ask. I AM SO GLAD TO BE HERE! |

Re: Glad to be here & Thank you!
Geno, WELCOME!!! Looks like a good project.Just a heads up on parts, we have some great vendors here on the Bb and they usually have better pricing and much better Customer service than the big box truck parts guys. There is also a reviews list on which vendors are out there doing what.

Re: Glad to be here & Thank you!
I have found that I can get most parts for my trucks at local parts stores except for body parts. Since my latest project is made up of parts from '67, '68, '69, '71, '78 and '96 trucks I have also found that I need to know what year part I am needing. Sometimes their knowledge of our old trucks is most times limited.
I try to support local stores when I can, but the site vendors I have dealt with are very helpful and know our trucks and their products. Danny

When (and I used to sell parts) the parts person asks questions that have absolutely nothing to do with my quest for a specific part....I know that they don't know what I'm talking about. But, just to be fair, it ain't always their fault. Still, you gotta know the lingo. I was working one time and a customer came in asking for a "center head gasket". The person who was being addressed looked at me (like I was the most knowledgeable one) and shrugged. I asked the make and model of the car and went and got what they wanted. I'm gonna need a set before too long, myself.

Welcome from Austin TX.
just watch out, you might get addicted to the board. Doesn't realy hurt if you get addicted to these trucks, as long as the wife is fine with it. LOL.
