New to these trucks 1948 thriftmaster build.

So i have always wanted a 5 window 47-54 and finally found one. I think its a good start. I paid $3600 for the truck restored about 15 years ago, recent engine rebuild, new front and rear springs, 5 new tires, rebuilt generator, carb, brakes, new wiring etc.etc.etc. Which all dont matter because im pulling all the mentioned items out and trying to sell them. I bought it from a 80 year old retired district attorney who spends summers in oregon and winters in arizona. cheaper resto but i think i did ok. I purchased a scott's hotrods super slam ifs, 18" billet specialties vintec dish wheels, and a complete accuair air ride system to get me started.....wish me luck!

I was at his garage to pick up some parts. First thing I said to myself was cool garage. Wish I had that much space.
Nice progress so far The work I saw when I was there was first class.

Re: New to these trucks 1948 thriftmaster build.

Welcome from So. Arizona!

What are you doing trying to beat the 1/2 hour TV shows !!
I read all that build in 5 min.!!

Looks like you will be driving that truck in a week at your speed!!

Before you weld the front crossmember in you may want to mock up the R&P and see if the bellows clear the bottom of the frame, unless you are planning on welding in noch. I guess with the super slam you will be doing that anyway.

Super simple on the Scotts products!!

Re: New to these trucks 1948 thriftmaster build.

Your project is great. Good progress and choice of parts. What are you planning for an engine?

I a doing a 48 GMC and I am about as far along as your pix show. I used a M2 front end with a power rack. I also will use the 235 straight six that was in it. Going to keep the vintage early 60's style. It had split fentons and a 2x Offy intake on it. I was sold when I saw it in a salvage yard. Body is rough but reat is pretty good.
Asking about the engine because if you reuse the sis you will most likely have to redo the motoe mounts to raise the engine to clear the rack. That is whjat I am fcing at the moment. Test fitted the engine last night, just back from rebuild, and saw the crash withe the rack. TCI, the manufacturer was not much help. I am on my own to solve. They did suggest a fabricator for the motor mounts. I am sure there are a bucnh of watc outs when doing this. That's where I am at. Keep up the good work.
