need help

hey all im in need of some help bad... I did a really stupid move the other day got new battery and the positive and negitive posts were different then the one my other battery was and i put the cables on wrong and well my wires to the firewall went up in smoke and now my truck sounds like its battery is dead but lights are bright and motor sometimes rolls over but wont start please help me with this thanks

change the wires and check the fusible link up there its prolly toasted

ok im new to the old trucks what wires am i needing to change and what link you talking the red power wires from starter and alt. to firewall???? thanks

yes there is a fusible link up by the firewall... i cant get to my gas truck or id give you a pic.. perhaps someone else can

the one from the starter to the firewall i have changed that one all ready and i have looked at the one to the alt. and it seemed to be in good shape other then the with that connects to the harness that goes to the fuse panel there is a little bit of corrosion there

I blew the one on my 75 recently. Look at the harness for a black connector. If you pull it apart there is a fuse in there. There Is another one closer to the fuse box below the master cylinder.
