Re: Too good to be true?

Has scam writen all over it. Sometimes, they put ads on places like Craigslist to collect information like phone numbers. As one member found out, the deal he found was a plan to rob him of the cash when he showed up to buy the item. Worth looking into, but proceed with caution.

Re: Too good to be true?

two things:

1) it's probably a scam. i see stuff like that on CL all the time.
2) if it's real, make sure it ain't stolen

if the guy emails you back, DO THIS FIRST!:

get the "Header" of the email ... very easy to do, more info here, pick your email program from the list: http://support.appriver.com/Customer...x?articleid=38

if you use Yahoo or Hotmail or something, there is some link around your email that lets you "show header" or "show entire header" or whatever.

copy and paste the header into the box on this website to trace the person:

http://www.geobytes.com/SpamLocator.htm

It will tell you what the origin of the email is (the IP Address), whether it's in the USA or not. IF it's in a foreign country, run like hell.

when you get the IP address, you can find out exactly what city and state they are in by putting it in the "Search" field at www.whois.sc website and running a search on it.

Re: Too good to be true?

Thats a 15-25 thousand dollar truck maybe more depending on the details. Just the wheels and tires were over $3000 for sure. I would be very careful giving that person any of my contact info. Chances are if you look around you will find pictures of that truck somewhere else and that guy has downloaded them and put up a for sale ad. I see morons doing this on ebay all the time. Usually looks like this. ALL ORIGINAL 70 HEMI CHARGER 4 SPEED CAR. has all options 2 4 bbl carbs bla bla bla. Anyone knows that car would be $100,000 car but the buy it now price is $9800. they list an email address thats usually yahoo or similar. I have never contacted one but I hear they ask for a deposit or a bank transfer and some people are foolish enough to write them a check which has your bank routing number and account number on it. With this info it's fairly easy for them to forge a phony transfer and disappear. when you try to find them later the email account either belongs to someone else or doesn't exist anymore.

Re: Too good to be true?

I'd say it's a scam, too. Or a prank. Notice how it doesn't say anything technical about the truck? It seems to me that anyone who would fix a truck up that nice would list nearly everything that has been done to it. And it says "ask for Herm Dogg".

Re: Too good to be true?

Ditto. The "ASK FOR HERM DOGG" part worries me. Seems too thug-ish, and you would want to limit your sales potential to just your homies.
I would have put "ask for Herman Watkins" or whatever.
If the deal is good enough to persue, find out the city and have him meet you at the local police station parking lot, inside a local bank (you can use the "I need a notary public witness" as an excuse)...or bring several local board members as "back up".
And hand over ZERO funds until you know for sure there is proper paperwork on hand.

Re: Too good to be true?

I looked up the phone number and this is what it came back with:

The phone number "(310) 702-5747" is based in Gardena, CA and the registered carrier is Verizon Wireless. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier.

Not much to go on, but I would say its a scam or maybe even stolen, usually ads asking for cash quick are shady
