New Tires and Exhaust
I haven't updated everyone on my truck in a while. Here goes.
I had my exhaust done yesterday. I replaced my stock cat w/ a catco for now. It is a small one, but I don't think I'll need a huge cat to pass smog with a 305. It goes to an aerochamber muffler to dual turndowns and dumps just before the axle. Before, I was running without a muffler. It sounds GREAT! Makes the 305 sound like a 350. GRRRRR! Sounds like a fast truck but it isn't! I got new tires and a tire pressure monitoring system put on. My new tires are Kuhmo Ecsta STX 285/60 R15s. I LOVE these tires. Not only do they look cool, but they get much better traction all around! LOVE them. I love gadgets. I'm a geek ok? I don't have to check my tires anymore. Just look at the monitor and boom - I know how my tires are doing. Also displays the temps so I know how hot they are getting. PICS SOON TO COME!

Forgot to add - I think a nice freeflowing cat made a difference but it really isn't that noticable. The big difference is when I pulled the muffler! I think every performance gain would not get noticed as I am pushing down a little to much to hear the new sound. I like it better and better.

awesome, when you start losing interest its always good to add something, makes you fall in love with your truck all over again. i still have a few things to do to mine.. small thing to do soon.... mount shovel rack, and gas cans and racks. big things.. radiator, and trans mount, pinion seal.

Tyler,
sounds nice. Only thing is how will they get to the exhaust to put the sensor hose in to test emissions? Around my parts, if the one doing the testing can't get to the tailpipe, you are failed on the spot.

I thought so too about the tailpipe but this guy also has a full blown emissions (SMOG) check and I SPECIFICALLY acked him if that would in any way cause me to get failed for emissions. He said no. He also refuses to do anything that will void SMOG. He is expensive but knows his stuff. Just for a braket he charged me $20 It is a high quality one for sure though. I'll get pics tomorrow.

Here in Phoenix if they cant stick the sniffer on just by slightly bending over they will fail you on the spot too. Thats why I have will have mine come out just enough to get the sniffer on it. I hope I pass when I go (if I have to) this year. A friend of mine was failed twice because his tail pipe had rust holes in it. So we cut the tip off to the axle and welded on a new pipe from the axle back. We had it tucked under a bit, but it was still reachable without a stretch. He took it for testing and they gave him no problems.

The smog guy had to crawl over the frame and look under the cab of my S-10 when I had the bed off. He still did it and never said anything to me.
Tyler, did you take your truck to Bob's Muffler? When I get ready to have a the new muffler put on i'm going to take it to Turlock Rad & Muffler, my friend bought his mufflers and had them do duals from the headers back with side exits on his '68 for $175. Another friend paid $380 to have a single Flowmaster with dual tips on his S-10, at Bob's. I've heard Bob won't even think about doing something that will void smog.

i like that tread pattern and the exhaust too. ive got my mufflers dumped behind the cab, and for emissions ive got two ole rusty 1 3/4in or so pipes i coat hanger in and slip in the muffler so i can take it too emissions. it is a pain to do every year, but the sound of the flowmaster with no pipes after them is just so good!

Hey Tyler, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay Stan's to do your exhaust?

suprised they dint fail you because of the coat hangers, they usually want the exaust properly attached, meaning no bailing wire or other perfered type of jerry rigging wire, lol.

Sounds like a badass 350 but it's NOT! I like it too. It is now louder with the muffler vs no muffler. Go figure!
