quick question
I have a 72 402 BB, I don't have the factory service manual yet so I was wondering if anyone knows how many quarts of oil it holds? Also is their a recommended grade of oil to use??

You will need (5) quarts of oil when you change the oil and filter.
I use 10w-40 year round in Michigan. Oil viscosity recommendations can change depending on where you live. Jim |

Thanks, only 5 quarts? my new truck take takes 6 and has a smaller engine, thats wierd. Has anybody heard about running a thicker viscosity oil on older engines? What does everybody else use? I always put 5w-30 in my new truck, becuase thats what the manual says to

If the engine is not worn out, then you'll be fine with 10/30, and maybe 10/40 in the winter...asuming it gets cold in your location. (No idea where lincoln is in Cali)
If you have a worn engine, then thick oil won't hurt too much, and may make the engine last a few more miles. |
