I would say roof lights are a personal choice, and depends how you are restoring it. You don't see many trucks around here with cab lights, so it would be different in that respect.

Do it how YOU want it done. If you like them, leave them. If not, take them out.

Personally, I want as few possibilities for water getting in as possible, but that is simply MY opinion.

It will be a great truck either way.

Good luck, hope to see you around in your truck.

That's a good idea putting the roof on with the doors installed. Never would have occurred to me.

Or me either. Eliminates a lot of alignment issues..

Of course, I always do things the hardest most expensive way possible. Not by choice, but by stupidity...

Re: 72 GMC Sierra Grande Roof Swap

I'm curious why you would put a cab top with lights built in if you were unsure about keeping them.

Personally I like them. I have a roof cut sitting in my shop just like the one you installed. When the smoke clears from all my projects and if my K20 is the last one standing the roof top will be installed on that.

Re: 72 GMC Sierra Grande Roof Swap

When I was a little kid[I'm 50] I remember my older brothers[both gone now] and their friends talking about the cab lights. They were highly sought after as options on their trucks. It was almost status symbol like, to the point they would add aftermarket ones on their trucks if they weren't factory equipped

Same in my generation or maybe it's the area that you live but. In my younger days we put cab lights on all the 67-1980s trucks (squarebodys) I've got 2 1972 trucks one has a real bad cab on it and it's taken me a year to find a new doner cab c/w cab lights because I want them. Just me but I prefer the cab lights. We even had them on the mirrors.
