windshield wiper motor problems in 1967 c10

Hello;

I have a 1967 c10 I just started working on. The wipers won't always start when I turn the switch, even with a new switch. If I tug on the wiper they will usually start, and then run ok. When they do run, they seem slow....they also don't "park" when I turn the switch off. I know the cab was stripped and painted, so I may have a ground problem....any other ideas? Does it sound like the wiper motor itself? Here in the Pacific Northwest, wipers are very important....even in the summer!

Thanks...

Re: windshield wiper motor problems in 1967 c10

Ok, I am bringing this one back due to having to go through my wiper system. I am having the same problems with the wipers working slowly and or barely at all. It just started doing this when we had the recent cold snap and Rain-X had carried me through.

Goin to do some more research.

Lube the wiper linkage and transmissions under the cowl vent.

It could be a ground problem. The best way to test that is get a piece of wire with alligator clips on each end and ground the motor to the dash. It could also be a problem with the switch not being grounded to the dash good. Take the wiper switch knob off (there is a small set screw on the bottom of the knob) and the screw on bezel off and snug the nut up on the wiper switch. (5/8ths inch socket) Don't get too carried away, the switch housing is pot metal so the threads strip easily. Let us know if that helps....
