Errr, I hate stripped bolts...
Ok the carriage bolts holding the bumper on, got to the last one and the square part stripped and now I can't get it to stay in place so I can break the nut loose. Any suggestions? Don't want to hurt the bumper any though.

Re: Errr, I hate stripped bolts...
2 options, weld a nut on the face of the bolt or torch it off from behind
unless you can get some vise grips to grip the head???

Re: Errr, I hate stripped bolts...
oh... you could do all sorts of things.
y weld a nut on the face when you can just weld a whole handle on there? Or use a cut-off wheel to put a notch in the face for a flat ended lug wrench. I wouldn't bring a torch near the bumper if it's chrome.

Re: Errr, I hate stripped bolts...
grind or cut the nut off or use nut splitter//its better to remove the complete assy with the braces and all from the frame to get it out on the ground to work on it
welding a nut on the face of the bolt is a waste of time since bumper bolts are covered with a stainless steel cap and the cap would need to be removed or the bolt would still probally turn with the cap on

Re: Errr, I hate stripped bolts...
I've used a nut splitter on bumper bolts a dozen times. Works real good.

Re: Errr, I hate stripped bolts...
Ended up cutting it off, with minimal damage to the bumper. Didn't think of cutting flathead slot in it :P
