Is it wrong?

Okay, I have been getting a little flack from a few of my friends for wanting to put a '68 front clip on my '69. I just don't like the lines of the '69 hood, paticularly from the head-on angle, there is something about that I just can't put my finger on. I also like the grill better on the '68, but I can live with the '69 grill. Either way that I go, it will have a 2" cowl hood. so is it taboo or just plain wrong to put on the '68 clip?

Cheers,
Brian

Re: Is it wrong?

Not at all! The 69 fans won't agree, but thats their worry. The 67-68 front end design is without a doubt one of the nicest looking truck front ends ever made.

Re: Is it wrong?

I have a 70 and i like the look of the 67-68 front ends better. I think they look killer with a cowl hood. Like everybody is saying it is yours and its realy what u like. Build it the way you want so you can have no regrets.

Re: Is it wrong?

I have to agree with everyone here...especially since I have a 70 with a 67 front clip. One thing I'd like to add about the cowl...my personal opinion is that they look MUCH better on the 67-68 fronts than they do on the 69-72's...but that's just how I feel...

Re: Is it wrong?

I like both and have one of each: a truck with 67-68 and a burb with 69-70. Since its an easy swap, I say do it, or get a 67-68. Two are better than one.

Re: Is it wrong?

No,it's only wrong if the truck is a unique or rare one that should be preserved. It's also not wrong to put a 69/70 clip on a 67/68.

Re: Is it wrong?

Its not wrong at all. I personally like the 69-72 hoods better because of the blunt straight front on it, I think it makes it look beefier. But the taper of the 67-68's is great, too. The whole idea of a custom is for it to be a little different anyway, and that would be a very minor customization. BUT....you will always have to be correcting people about the year of your truck!

I like my 72 grill but I like the slope of the 67-68 hood better. I wish somebody made a 67 hood to fit the 72 fenders

Start listening to what they say once they begin to financially support your restoration.

I have a '69 and if it weren't Grandpa's original truck, mine would ALREADY have a '67/68 front clip.

Do it.

Re: Is it wrong?

I put a 68 nose on my 72 burb and havent regretted it one bit.
Also, I put a 69/70 GMC nose on my 70 Chevy. Same deal... I love it like that.
Build it to what you want... and if you get flack from your buddies, then pick on them for driving a honda or whatever they drive.

Nothing wrong with it every truck should be unique in it's own way. I went from the 69 grille on mine to a 72. The 68 grilles have been growing on me so now I am going to switch. Got the grille from a board member and just waiting for the rest of the parts to finish it.

Re: Is it wrong?

Do what pleases you. I have a 70 and I like my 70 but...if I had a choice between a 68 with the same options as my 70...I think the 68 would win. Again it's your truck so do what makes you happy!!!

Re: Is it wrong?

It's no body's business but yours. Build it to suit your self. As said all 5 models look good. Just pick one. And for that matter keep the original front end and you can change it back if you ever decide you want to.

Re: Is it wrong?

The swap you want to do has been done many, many times. When Harry Bentley Bradley designed the '67's for GM, his own statements said that the redesign done for '69 was because GM management wanted a more masculine appearance. Think back, if you're old enough or into trucks, and remember the front appearance of the competition of the day....Ford, Dodge, and International. All were somewhat squared-off and had a more upright grille facade. The original intent was to keep the small rear window, too. Harry felt it offered a limousine appearance. But, it went away as we all know.

You can achieve a sleeker appearance if you section/pancake the hood. I think that the biggest cut in the front, w/o altering the radiator support, is 2 inches, maybe 2.25 or even 2.5 inches. Custom Classic Truck magazine had an article within the past 2 years that showed how to do it. It may have been Classic Trucks, tho. Memory is subject to error. Anyway, you leave the rear of the hood intact, but take a wedge out of the side appearance. It's work, but it may do what you want.
