What's your best theft deterrent ???
Looking for a good (and cheap) theft deterrent! Such as a remote kill switch, hidden battery disconnect, starter cutout, hydraulic wheel lock, alarm system, whatcha got? Show me how your truck can't get stolen when you're not around!

3 on the Tree is a pretty good deterrent. Most under 30 probably never heard of it lol.

Waay back, in my teens, my mother had her '70 Maverick painted at a local Ford dealer. There was really nothing wrong with it, other than the fact that the original paint was "dead", lost it's shine after 10 years or so. She went to pick it up and they sent the "kid" out to get it and bring it around for her. You guessed it, three on the tree, backed into a spot against the building, parked as many people do.....in reverse. Yup, the kid fired it up......right into on of those big forked fire hydrant fittings that was on that wall. Destroyed the rear of and unwrecked, fresh painted car, because he thought it was an automatic in park. Clutch pedal safety switches came much later. Heck, I bought a Mazda minitruck new in '86 and it didn't even have that yet.

I don't know that you're gonna get a lot of guys to advertise "how their truck can't get stolen" in this type of setting.

It's Colt, Sir not Springfield but Springfield Armory does make several using the original Colt patent.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I don't recommend leaving your gun on the seat, it's not the best deterrent and probably quite the opposite. So unless it's a motion sensor turret, it wont help

mine has to be the cheap rock island 1911, of it gets stolen, it is not as bad as say a lesson baer or the like. There was a thread similar to this not too long ago, I got an idea for somebody for a kill switch where the 12v plug is, just pull it out and the truck won't start. |

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
A 1911 just isn't quite big enough. I prefer a .44 magnum - in a pinch, a .357 will suffice.

I like the idea of the 870 too, one of the serbu super shorties with a few slugs would do nicely Why not an ar pistol? I want to make a rack to go behind the seat that is hidden so I can stash a few guns and make it look like the gas tank, just in case. |

Have BCM from a 98-02 Fbody wired in...when active it kills power to fuel pump, the starter solenoid and several other systems. I also have a remote kill switch wired to several strategic systems.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
To everyone who posted what kind of gun they would use to shoot the thief, I'm a Sig man myself but,... the question was how do you protect your truck when your not around. Also, thieves don't just look for opportunity in "shady areas".
I'm looking for something that kills the ignition, locks the wheels, etc. Has anyone installed a cable operated hood release like the newer cars use? Not being able to open the hood would help. It could also reduce potential vandalism to boot. |

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
Thieves sedo look to steal in "Shady Areas".They know the people there have little worth stealing. The best way is to have a nice enough truck to enjoy but not so nice someone will steal it.

I hang silhouette targets that I have shot during target practice in on my garage walls.
