i have a 67 GMC with the 3 speed column shifter. I want to switch this to a floor mount 3 speed. does anyone know where the hole for the shifter would actually need to go???? i also plan on putting bucket seats in. any pictures or diagrams would be great or suggestion on which shifter to use.

easy way is install on tranny while you're under truck look up then make hole and take the two bolts and bolt shift handle on linkage

This is how I did mine. The hole does not need to be to big either. Start small (like 2" x 3") and enlarge it only as much as you need to.

I got a Hurst kit from Summit. Pretty good price if I remember correctly, and it works good too.

The Hurst shifter and kit fits the 7 bolt side cover full synchro tranny's. You probably have a 4 bolt side cover non 1st gear tranny. I used a Mr. Gasket #7667A shifter in my 67 gmc. The hurst shifter brackets and linkages need a bunch of mods to fit. The 7667A is a universal one that comes with multiple brackets and easy to install. Got mine on ebay for 80 bucks shipped to my door.

I tend to eyeball it and put a sheetmetal screw in the top where I think it should be, then get back under it and adjust my eyeball measurements based off where the screw sticks out. If it's off too much, you only have a tiny hole in the wrong spot.

Start small and adjust as needed.

Oh, I had a Mr. Gasket shifter and it kept binding in 1st and 2nd at once. I'ld jump out, pull the linkage by hand under the truck and then fire it back up and be on my way. I have a hurst shifter now and life is much better; I can slam gears all I want and it only goes in one at a time!

Hurst shifters don't hang up I agree but I've had 4 Mr. Gasket ones and have never had one hangup yet. You just gotta know how to set them up.
