I'm making my decision on my bumpers. I was wonder if anybody knows, is it cheaper to re-chrome or buy new ones? I can get good quality(atleast I was told) new ones for $175 from Dick's Auto Parts in Middlebury,IN. Should I just get the new ones?

I did the re-chrome, because I didn't like the quality of the re-pops. Mine turned out decent, and I paid about 300 bucks apiece. If you want true, show quality,top of the line plating, be prepared to spend upwards of a grand! EACH!

I had zero problems with my aftermarket bumper. It is identical in appearance and fit to my original bumper (excpet it is new and shiny

When buying a new one ask for the better quality ones...they are fine. Re-chroming down in this area can coast up to $700 a bumper.

The newer EPA standards has hit the chrome businesses and not to mention the cost of metals. So the cost of a good re-chrome is up form just a couple years ago. Buying aftermarket is cheaper, but I also think that you get what you pay for. I really have issue with some of the Taiwanese parts that are on the market. The metal is not the same and the quality of finsih is always questionable. IF you are going for show, then re-chrome---If you are going for daily use then a re-pop would suffice.

if you get new ones hit the backside of them b4 installing with a product like POR15 to prevent the rust buildup that happens once they're on the truck

Wow I knew rechrome wasnt gonna be cheap but I had no idea it was THAT expensive. I think I'm gonna go with the new ones then. I'm not going for a top of the line show truck but it wont be a daily driver either. I think the new ones should be ok. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

ANd look on the back of the bumper...the triple nickel plated ones look much nicer and the chrome is better than the cheaper repops....

So are the ones I'm looking at for $175 cheaper ones? They don't have pics on their website I had to call and they have to order them. He said they were nice ones.

We went through 3 new bumpers before we got one the chrome did not split when we tightened the bolts down. Won't mention brand names. Not to mention they are thinner. If it is a daily driver and just need something nicer than what you have, aftermarket is fine. Building a show truck, rechrome originals.

spring and summer is a good time of year to pickup a bumper at swap meets that way u see what you're getting and dont have to pay shipping

I just put Re-Pops on my 71 and the quality is at least as good as OEM. I measured both the Repro and the original with calipers and they are exactly the same. I'm not a stranger to re-chroming. I've had it done for many years and now the cost is too prohibitive, especially here in California. For $180.00 the reproduction is a great choice.

I have bumpers but the rear would for sure have to be rechromed for me to use it the front doesnt look bad but i saw some rust starting on it. Like I said I'm not looking for a top of the line show truck but it wont be a daily driver either I'm kinda going middle of the road a truck I can show and drive. I think I'm gonna order the rear atleast for now and see how it is. I want to thank everyone again for all your help.

Around here you can get a bumper rechomed between $275 to $300.

Really? I have a hard time seeing that, I had a firend get his 60 Ford bumpers done and the cost was over $800.00 and that was the general quality finish.

wow, rechroming has really gone up!! I had my cowl chromed about 5 years ago and it cost 125.00. Good chrome job too! I have an aftermarket on mine and it looks real good but it is thinner metal. Ipushed a car with my truck and even with a tire between the car and truck bumpers I still got a slight crease in it

it was john at duke city bumper but they've sold out to Keystone automotive and no longer do chrome plating. They specialize in plastic bumper refinishing now. Im thinking there is a commercial plating place on 4th street past osuna but I dont know if they do private work or not or even if theyre still around. Id ask classic bodyshop on 4th street (also known as mad hopper customs) and see who they use to take parts to el paso for re chroming

I picked up my front bumper from the Truck and Car Shop at the Portland Swap Meet. $125, no shipping. It is triple nickel plated and made by a company called Counterpart. Fits perfect and easy install with new chrome bumper bolts I got them to throw in for free. Everything lined up perfect. The normal price in the catalog or website is $140 plus shipping. Your truck looks good. How were the new bumpers for metal thickness and chrome quality. Are the ones you purchased from truckandcarshop nickel, copper, and chromed? I am about to purchase bumpers from LNC but they are much higher priced.
