Here's some pictures after I took the inner cowl off my '68.

This one shows the drain for the cowl

im dealing with rot issues in this location myself. once i get it all cleaned up and fixed you can bet i will have some kind of screen there. the only good thing about it is, once you button it all back up you cant see much of it.

that is the only real rust issue on my 72 burb also. thinking about having a drain hole drilled in the low point when i have it repaired. lmc makes a screen that goes under the cowl panel to keep out debris. the stainless one is like 50 bucks and it is on my future purchases list.

Another reason I dont want to take mine apart yet. To me it looks to be minor, but a body guy I am not, so good luck with it.

Trucks left outside for long periods of time are all a problem. Mouse nests are like sponges and can really be trouble. My original truck has typical northern rust on the bottom and can be repaired with the usual patch panels. I was going to sell it off but I think I am going to keep it and fix it. You can repair all of it but you gotta have patience!!!!

My cab is rusted in the same place as well. Luckily I had a donor cab that I could rob the cowl off of.

For those that maybe don't know yet, the aftermarket is now making replacement cowls.

I actually just got one of those inner cowls in the other day. Overall I thought it was a really good part, at least on visual inspection.

There were only a couple of things I did not like. It was not entirely one piece. The face (toward the front of the truck) of the ends of the cowl that wrap around are seperate pieces that are spot welded in. Not a big deal will just have to weld up and grind smooth. The other was a few wrinkles in these areas during the stamping process. Should be able to grind down and smooth out. Other than that looks good to me. I attached a pic below with those areas circled.

I would show a test fit pic on my cab, but have to make some additional modifications. I shaved the vents off and removed the big dent in the cowl on the passenger side where the blower is at to make like the drivers side.

It's about $200 for the part, but due to the size was around $100 for the shipping. Got mine from Southern Kentucky Classics.

Yes, it has the nuts and reinforcement plates installed for both the fender and outer cowl.

On the passenger side it also has the channel installed that I am guessing is a path for water around the blower assembly. It's the metal piece you show in your very first picture of the thread fishingjred73.
