Cool thing happened today !

I went to a local car show today and found out that any participants that wanted to take a few laps at the old Texas World Speedway were welcome to . We met back at the park and drove out to the track and got to make some low speed passes on the steep banks . That is a feeling . They are steep . I was able to speed up to about 80 in one of the turns but didnt want to pass anyone . Most were around 65 . My boys had a VBS to attend at church so I left the car show , drove home (25 miles one way) picked them up and returned to College Station to go to the track . The first pass was real slow at about 35mph and it felt like the truck would tip over to the drivers side . What a weird feeling . My youngest, which is the wildest , wasnt so sure about that feeling and even asked me to go back to the bottom . Once we increased the speed he was asking for more speed . My boys absolutely loved it and I am soo glad I went home to get them . They didnt really know what to expect and I didnt either but it was a very unique feeling . My camera I had in the truck died instantly so I only have these long shots my wife was able to get but you can get an idea of the banking .

Re: Cool thing happened today !

I remember walking up the banking at Daytona early in a corner. On TV the banking doesn't look that steep. Walking up it you have a hard time believing a car will even stick to it.

Very cool.

Re: Cool thing happened today !

one of these days I am going to do it. They offer that at the Goodguys Lonestar show. They have a pace car and tell you do not pass the pace car. I see guys drop back a half lap then hammer it so they can take the banked turn at speed.

What a hoot...

I like the last picture (in the first section) the best:

Re: Cool thing happened today !

That's cool Frank! I had the chance to do the Richard Petty Driving Experiece last year at Lowes Motor Speedway. Before we got the chance to go around the track they put all the drivers in a 15 passenger van. I thought the van was going to tip over at 85 mph. Very cool!

Re: Cool thing happened today !

It was a cool experience .My boys were still talking about it today . I wish my camera would have not died . The pics I have were from my wife . I had a chance to get a pic of the orange Corvette just ahead of me coming out of one of the corners . Reminded me of the dealer promo video that Jeff(Bigblock73) had transferred to DVD . Today was good because I went back to the show and won the 73-up truck class . Neat ! I had many compliments and conversations about the truck while at the show .

That's awesome Frank. My uncle when he went to the Goodguys show at Texas Motor Speedway drove his car on the track. That is a really cool thing to do, and a memory you and your kids will have forever.

Re: Cool thing happened today !

That's COOL Frank, congrats on the Class win.

I attended A&M and have been on that track in a 3/4 ton truck setting up for what we called AGGIECROSS back then. Those turns are STEEP. Would love to do that again sometime, but in a faster/lower/better handling truck...
