I'm pretty sure it is camel hump, for logical reasons. That is all I've ever heard them called. Just my 2 cents

It comes from the I.D> cast in the end of the head...it is 2 humps, like a camel's back.

Hump and bump

The hump is when the camel feels like giving his lady a good time, and the bump is when he just feels like a quickie!
Sorry couldn't resist. I know bad joke!

Question

Can anyone post any pics of the actual heads? I have a 327 with heads out of a late 60's engine with the 13/16 spark plugs and am wondering if I have them. Any easy ways of identifying them? Thanks

also called "camel backs", the heads with 2 sharp points "M" were called "diamond backs"
Otherwise they would be called camel humps, 'cause a camel's bumps are as usefull as tits on a boar.

67CST, Yes I do have very much power with my engine, however, I have about 3k into it. THe book says that the "HN" on the front right of the block makes it a 65 Vette 327 originally fuel injected producing 375hp. It is a 4-bolt main, however I don't know if the guy before me did this, or it came that way cuz it was a Vette engine, I've been told here that 327's never came 4-bolt main, I don't know, fact is, it is currently a 4-bolt main. I got the block already balanced, with TRW popups, geardrive, etc... for a killer deal--$500!--(Lady didn't know what she had).
I added a 280H Comp cams, heads off a 69 or 70 truck, roller rockers, SS valves, chrome moly pushrods, studded w/guide plates, oh it's .030 over, Mallory Ign system, Edelbrock performer intake, Carter AFB 750--in dire need of replacing. It will scream despite the carb being bad. It will carry a burn from L1 all the way through drive. I have a TPI racing kit on a th400. Depends on what you put into it, 327's are known to turn more RPM's than 350's and strokers.

72 step...there is all kinds of things about your build that I would like to ask you about. 1st- either someone added the 4 bolt mains ,or its a 350..the numbers on the pad can be changed at will..when you deck a block the numbers disapear..so sometimes dishonest people will restamp them with numbers that are special...it really dosent matter..do you know its a 327??..have you checked the stroke?? pop up pistons? what heads do you have(the number)..can you run hi-test gas or do you have to run race fuel? the reason I ask is with pop ups with that mild cam it probably pings..unless you have big chamber heads...even then the C/R will be over 10-1. sounds like theres something fishy in the "327" area.......

I always wondered that too. So the camel hump heads don't have any cast in threads for alternator brackets?

I think it was 68 and earlier heads came without accessory bolt holes. Everything tied back to the water pump or was bolted to the exhaust manifold. (not sure of exact year)
