spot weld inspector mark?????
Never noticed these before (that I recall).
A couple weeks ago I removed the old seam sealer from the roof drip rail just above the passenger side windshield area and noticed a "32" stamped over the top of a spot weld (didn't take picture at the time). Upon seeing this, I just assumed someone at the factory counted the number of spot welds in that particular area and stamped "32" ????. But yesterday while marking any areas that still needed some body work, I noticed in the rear of the cab, center bottom, there was also a "32" stamped on top of a spot weld. This leads me to believe maybe someone had to mark that they inspected the spot welds?????? I looked the rest of the cab over but found no other such numbers. I did find an oddly placed stamp on the driver's side cab floor which does not correspond with a part number or vin number or model number. The stamping is "23420." Just found these markings interesting , I hope someone else does also |

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
I found a hand full of those when my truck came back from soda blasting, have no idea what they are.

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
It is little things like these that keep me interested in the hobby. Not worth noting to some but interesting to others : )

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
I'm pretty certain the two-digit numbers refer to the week the part was stamped. I've never seen a number greater than 52.

I think you are correct if you are saying the "32" stands for the week the parts were mated together, spot welded together. If so, this would make perfect sense since my truck was completed in Fremont the last week of Aug 1968 and the oldest date coded parts I have found on the truck are Aug 18 1968. The 32 week of 1968 was: Aug. 5, 1968 Aug. 11, 1968 Thanks for the input 402Bowtie |

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
I find this sort of thing interesting. I can't help you decipher what these numbers mean because I have no clue. I was curious to see if mine had these as well, and sure enough it does! I have a 10 stamped on the rear of the cab and what looks like a 31310 on the floor under the seat. I don't see any number on the roof but I also still have my factory seam sealer installed.

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
I had design/release responsibility for the pickup cab and box on the GMT800, K2 and T1 programs (and full size van underbody, too).
I can state with authority those are date codes. The fact that they were stamped on or near spotwelds is a coincidence and unrelated. K

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
I like the finer details, and Keith managed to clear things up. We're very lucky to have first hand experience available. Say Keith, I think we've covered this and some remained a mystery, but because I'm old and forget some things, any idea what these numbers mean?

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
RH frame rail's exterior wall. Pretty sure 4-23 is the day code. Makes some sense, a BUNCH of parts on this truck are stamped April for a truck finished May 17th.

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
Thanks Keith, great info.
I too, want to know about the frame rail date codes. I get the part number and 7-15 aligns with a Aug 68 built truck but Can't decipher the the two (35). Last edited by CKfan; 08-04-2023 at 10:16 AM. Reason: add photo |

Re: spot weld inspector mark?????
From a thread I started back in 2018:
"On the back of my cab, and on the tailgate are stamped numbers. "39" on the back of the cab and "47" on the tailgate. The font appears to match so I would guess this was some factory marking." http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=767013

Interesting info, especially checking panels for date codes for originality.
