Warranty label question...
Howdy, y'all. Here's my project for when I retire. I've had it for about 15 years and used to drive it occasionally. Now that I'm retiring, I'm going to make it a driver again.
I'm getting some good info from this site again. Fantastic bunch! Here's my question. There's a label in the warranty book that has this on it below the vin number. Anyone know what these numbers mean? RXSTD 3.54 1D112657 TRSM318 GMC8 |

Re: Warranty label quetion...
is the label a metal tag?
Sounds like the protecto plate. These numbers are a code that show certian things about your truck. The original owner's name and personal info should be on there too. When ever it went in for warranty work, they'd slide that thing like the old school credit card slder things, and it would go into the paper trail of work done to that truck. |

Re: Warranty label quetion...
Yep, those things are pretty neat. I still have a work order for my truck when it had a carrier bearing replaced under warranty. You can see where they copied the protect-o-plate info in the corner of the work order.

Re: Warranty label question...
Yeah, Longhorn. It's a metal plate on the back of the warranty book my buddy gave me when I bought the truck. Has the name of his father and address etc..
I wonder if the RXSTD 3.54 has anything to do with the rear end ration? Could the TRSM318 have something to do with the transmission? btw: here's a pic of my 69 that I've had for about 20 yrs. That will be next on my list of "to do's." |

Re: Warranty label question...
was your truck originally a big block truck? I *think* that's the only way to have gotten that gear...and even then, I don't think it was in 1/2 tons. I think the 1500 trucks got a 3.07 with a big block.
If you do a search on protecto plate... you may find the info. This one cat had a link... he pops in every great once in a while. |

Re: Warranty label question...
Longhorn. Re: big block ?...
The truck is original with 250 six, 3 on the column. I added power steering, power brakes and changed the trans for another with synchronized first gear for convenience. That's the only thing different on it. I will get under the rear end and check for numbers. Re: 72army not seeing pics. Can anyone see them??? Since I'm not familiar with the photo stuff they may not have come out... |

Re: Warranty label question...
