VERY WEIRD WITH THE '67! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

At a stop light... I started to give my 1/2 ton some gas. Then all the sudden the gas pedal flies to the floor, not by my foot. It left my foot like it was being sucked down. The truck started to accelerate. Then the pedal came back up followed by a big THUD kinda of thinking the transmission mount is broken. This thud knocked my shifter link from the pivot on the transmission. It's a 3 on the tree.

I put the linkage back on nice and tight *that was rather hard*.... I made sure my throttle return spring was connected to the carb correctly and made sure nothing was in the way of the throttle linkage.

Then it happened again, and again with the knocking shift rod from the pivot on the tranny.

MY TRUCK IS POSSESSED!!! HELP !

Your left motor mount is busted. With your hood open, and nothing in front of you, (like the house or garage) start it up and start to pull forward. It looks like the whole motor is trying to jump out doesn't it?
There was a recall on this in 71 or 72. That is why they went to the cable throttle in 71, and also the clamshell motor mounts later.
you can replace it with the same style, (look how long it took to blow that one out) or you could get the latter ones for it. I would put a limiting strap, or chain, on it just to be safe. I been meaning to do that for over a year now.

How would going to a cable throttle over come a broken faulty motor mount?

This limiting strap, would it go on the throttle rod I'm assuming?

The limiting strap went from the ex man to the frame. It was a common site in mid to late 60s cars & trucks.......D@mn,I remember the 60s........its hell to get old!

The cable throttle doesn't hang floored when the engine torques over.The motor mount will still break but at least it doesn't run away and create havoc.

a throttle cable won't do anything to overcome a broken motor mount, it just won't get all bound up and stick wide open when the engine trys to jump through the hood.
