Worthy Project? - (w/ pics)
Picked this 68 stepside up today. Can't decide if it's worth saving or to part it out. What do you think? Is it worth saving? Would need a new Cab, and Nose. the inside sheetmetal is actually good (fenderwells, etc. Frame "looks OK" Has a 250-6cyl that runs really well and four speed, but I've got 571BB plans for what I want to do.
Suggestions???? Thanks!

Sean,
Sorry don't use IM - it's in pretty sad shape. Don't have a pic of it either. If I part out I'll email you a pic. Won't pickup the truck till the 20th anyway.

Yea, Part it, but when you do that, I'll take whatever is left over free of charge. Ya know just to get it out of your way. I'm so generous.

I would say it is worth fixing, as long as the cab isn't too bad. I can see it has some dents in it, but I can't tell from the pic if it could be fixed eaisly or not. How much was it? There is a whole 71 swb (at least for now) in the inpound yard at the pick and pull here, and it looks like it was being driven the way it is, and all it needs is a cab. They want $800, but I already have 2 trucks and no room or money for more.

Ok, I saw you said it needs a new cab, so then if it were me, it would depend on if I had one or not.

Definitely bought it right - $200.... No matter what it was worth the money. I have everything I need except for two good doors. I think one door can be saved.
My daughters already started calling it Casper - better decide soon or she'll be telling me I killed him if we part it out. Thanks for the input.

And i've taken on worse, too, and regretted it. That is a parts truck. Save the bed, the engine and trans, are cool, you did not lose for 200, but it is MUCH cheaper and saner to buy a good solid truck for several thou than to spend 10K trying to fix a turd.
That one is ready for the vultures. RIP.

If you have the parts, fix it. I don't know if it is worse in person, but other then the roof, it doesn't even look that bad.

I would do everything humanly possible to save any old Chevy! We lose more and more everyday. Look it over very carefully with an open mind and hopefully, you can rescue the ol gal. Looks like it had a tough life, it deserves some nice retirement car/truck show days. C'mon, you can do it!!!

I'd say save the poor thing. I've seen much worse and turned out very nice. Cabs are very easy to find as are fenders and hoods and such. Starting at 200 for the project is not that bad from what you have to start with.....

I personally would save the lady but, that is me! If you want to part it out go right on ahead and make everyone elses just a little more valueable. It sickens me when I keep seeing people part these trucks out when there are still OEM parts available still in the boxes. Also it might make a nice piece for someone younger trying to get into our hobby if you don't want to mess with it. It does look like it is complete! Well off my soap box I go!

Id dismantle it completly, check the frame.sell the bed buy a fleet, find a cab, nose, doors, some 5 lug suspension.and turn it into a SWB fleet truck,or sell the bed and frame and salvagable parts and make a few bucks.Theres alot of these trucks out there.I suppose they might be rare in about 30 years.I wouldnt put together unless you know of a decent cab cheap, and had all the rest of the pieces to put together.
