Truck is running good but.....
OK.....I got the HEI in and the truck is running alot better (thanks for the help) but I've got a belt squealing pretty bad. It has always done this even with new belts. When I was working on it, I had it running without the fan installed and there was no squealing but as soon as I put the fan back on it started again. Should I get a different fan? Something lighter? Clutch fan maybe?
Thanks ------------------ 72 long fleet GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.!!! http://communities.msn.com/196772ChevyTrucks Vermilion, Ohio eagle571@hotmail.com

running a direct drive fan now, or a flex fan? If it's a flex fan, get rid of it regardless.

Go to your local auto parts store and get a eletric fan
It will free up a few hp and it will never squeek

I have seem trucks where the pullies were completely worn out. If you look in the groove where the belt runs you should be able to tell. A new pully might fix it.

The fan that's on it now is what appears to be the original (direct drive) fan. It's been shaved on the ends to clear the aftermarket a/c compressor.
I'll take a look at the pully and see what it looks like. Are new pullies still available or will I have to get one from aftermarket. If I can, I want to go with a new one. I do plan to eventually get an electric fan but I want to replace this one for the time being. What do y'all recommend? I see that Summit has an "OEM" replacement, I guess it's all steel. Flex Fan has one that has the steel center with stainless blades.......? Thanks again

The original fans were not direct drive, they had clutches.
Look down the belts from the side. (check to see if the pullies are lined up. It does not take much to set them off. You have an internal, or externial regulated altinator? Which side of the engine is it mouted on? ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350.
