introducing myself
Hi All, I'm new here, and a new owner of a 70 C10 long bed, with a 283 and auto trans.
Maybe more of an interesting story then most on how I came about the Truck. I am a woodworker and Luthier and I traded a workbench for the truck. My good friend decided he wanted me to build him the bench, and I needed/wanted a truck, so we made a deal... He is also going to help me do the body work and paint work on the truck. Should be a fun project over the next few months. I'm sure I will have lots of stupid questions for you all along the way... I'm not looking to end up with a show truck, but a 10 footer or better would be nice. OK how about some pics. A couple of the bench, and a couple of the truck... ooh the bench took a blue ribbon at the Florida State fair a few weeks ago. |

Re: introducing myself
Thanks all.
How about a first question... Will 67/68 trim fit on my 70? I quite like the trim and think it would go very well with the paint scheme I'm thinking about. |

Re: introducing myself
Welcome to the board neighbor. Yes the 67-68 trim will fit a 1970 truck.

Re: introducing myself
Welcome. We have more than one thing in common.
Well, other than my family, here are my two biggest loves: Unfortunately, I'm not the luthier. I have Santa Cruz to thank for that work. I'm just the guitar's owner/player.

Re: introducing myself
It is basically a Shaker Style Bench.
I say Basically because the Shakers built benches like this with built in cabinets underneath, but either out of all one wood, or a simple milk painted cabinet... The religion required them to be "Plane" Simple lives, in other words, no my bench is better then your bench. Kinda ironic that shaker style furniture is so popular today, somehow they turned plane and utilitarian into elegant. The bench I made is red oak, cherry, and Locally grown and salvaged rosewood... most people dont know we have rosewood growing here in florida. |

Re: introducing myself
Nice bench. I'd be afraid to use it, and mess it up. Here's a couple of my guitars I've built.

Re: introducing myself
Seeing as you like those classic bottle openers, you can always do what I did and mount a stainless one to the bumper for camping/tailgate parties, etc. lol

Re: introducing myself
I guess I should post up some of my instruments... All Ukuleles so far, but have orders for 2 guitars that I hope to start here in a couple weeks. I started with my first uke just under 2 years ago and have built over 30 so far. I have about 6 on hand for sale, all are in the last pic... the electrics and 3 acoustics.
My brand is Sideways Eight "Because Gibson Was Taken" My name is Andrew Gibson... so really can't use my last name even though Orville Gibson sold the company in in 1902 for $2500... unfortunately no relation. |

Re: introducing myself
With that kind of woodworking skills we will expect some custom wood work in this bed. Maybe walnut or maple just some suggestions!
